Emily de Molly Poser

Poser was released by Australian indie polish maker Emily de Molly as a stand alone polish in November 2015. This is a complex pale pink linear holo, a pale silvery rose pink along the lines of pink lace from the Xona.com color list, bearing abundant finely-milled blue-to-purple color-shifting shimmers. Poser is not a buoyant baby shower princess tutu pink. Beneath the sparkle of its considerable holographic properties lies an aloof, otherworldly shade with a preternatural feel to it. In low light, the color-shifting shimmers give its semi-metallic finish a ghostly blue glow, and transform the color to a bruised pink-lavender at oblique angles. Direct light generates a linear prismatic display in muted shades of lavender, periwinkle and peach surrounding a central blaze of palest silvery pink. The delicate colors belie a sleek, chilly demeanor on the nail, silvery with glistening flashes of pale blue.

Application was lovely. The consistency of Poser is fluid, light and ultra smooth, with a thin to medium viscosity and an even, self-leveling slip over the nail. It likes to go on in thinner coats and is easy to manipulate with Emily de Molly's flattened brush -- some of the polishes from my latest order have round brushes, some have the flattened shape, both with supple, pliant bristles. Pigmentation is uniformly sheer but buildable. The polish goes on so evenly you could wear this as a sheer at one coat if desired. Two coats provides wearable coverage with a hint of translucence, and three nets full opacity. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Poser dries naturally in very good time to a smooth glossy finish. Topcoat does not inhibit the holographic properties of this polish at all.

Photos show three coats of Poser over basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

In the photos this polish looks for all the world like the very nacre under Aphrodite's feet when she rose from the sea on a halfshell -- Poser is so photogenic and its holographic effects so diaphanous that my photos reflect only its illusive sweetness, but I'm telling you this polish has a wintry heart! It seemed to fit perfectly with the snow we had today, icy flakes driven sideways by a cold, wet wind under murky purple-grey cloudcover.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  1. This polish is making the Pink Lover inside me skip around the room in delight. So dainty, and yet ... that flame! Love the supporting walls of the cinnamon-y peach that seem to be containing all that shimmering, sparkling goodness within. An exquisite polish!
That description of your weather makes me want to brew up a pot of strong, hot tea!

    1. The holographic effects of this polish are so responsive and powerful that it's nearly impossible to get a well-lit photo of it when it isn't in full linear prismatic mode -- in person it spends at least half its time looking like a sleek silvery pink with a chilly blue glow. But it is gorgeous in these photos. The holo colors will brighten up considerably in direct sun from what I've seen.

That was our first and only snow so far this year! Sadly, it wasn't cold enough for any accumulation. We may get some more at the end of the week though. Today the sun is out but it's cold, about 10°F with the wind chill. Winter, finally!

  2. I knew there was something extra exciting about this post, but couldn't quite remember... SNOW!!! Hooray, hooray!! I expect it's gone now but at least it ain't winter for nothing anymore!
I can feel the blue chill just emanating from this polish, but you are especially clever to have interpreted its eerie, distant soul. Ghostly is very accurate. And yet, the image of the love goddess rising from the sea also struck a chord with me! It is a unique and complex lacquer composition indeed that can evoke such different yet equally relevant imagery. Enchanting!

    1. Yes, snow! We finally got some! Not much, but enough to thrill the heck out of me! Whenever I see snow now I think about you. I was watching an old episode of House not long ago where snow was falling thickly in big fluffy flakes and thought with a sigh, that's probably what it's like in Montana.... *lol*

Poser is one of those polishes that simply refuses to bare its soul to a lens. The pink Aphrodite magic in the photos is not the whole story! I was actually shocked at how winsome it looked in the pics when it felt so spectral and potentially dangerous on my nails. A unique take on pink!
