Nail Hoot Nebula

Nebula was released by Missouri-based indie polish maker Nail Hoot as part of the Space Galaxy Trio Part II in February this year. Described as a blue scattered holographic polish with added shimmer, the color is a medium-dark denim blue, a perfect match to your favorite jeans. Abundant holographic pigment and silvery grey microflake shimmers speckle the finish, giving it that dusty quality that perfectly mimics the minute variable shading of denim fabric. In direct sun, the color brighten dramatically to a brilliant capri-like azure and explodes into a dazzling cloud of brilliant scattered pinpoint sparks in all of the rainbow colors floating over a vestigial linear underlay.

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Nebula is fluid, light and creamy with a medium viscosity and a smooth, even, self-leveling glide over the nail. I love Nail Hoot's brush -- relatively petite for a flattened-style brush and sleekly compact, with very flexible bristles permitting a precise fan at the cuticle for a nice tidy line. This polish has a degree of built-in translucence that builds easily to evenly opaque coverage in two to three coats depending on painting style and depth of color preferences. I used three medium coats for full bottle color and richest holographic effects, but it is also eminently wearable at two. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Nebula dries naturally in good time to a smooth finish with a soft shine. Topcoat adds a becoming gloss and does not appear to affect the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

Photos show three coats of Nebula over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

  1. Such a beautiful polish! My nails are bare and prepped - guess what color they are getting today. I don't think I have a polish as pretty as this one but I will have to make do. I have a whole rack of blue polish - I need to hunt around in it, surely one of them will be similar! Wouldn't it be something if, among them all, I didn't have a blue-jean blue with scattered holo? It wouldn't surprise me. I thought I had an excess of light, pastel blue polish but I don't. What I have is a lot of light to medium aqua / turquoise (which apparently I can't resist). Only one or maybe two would qualify as baby blue. Heheh, I need to expand my blues, including periwinkles and blue-jean tones!

    1. I love periwinkle! I don't think I have very many of those myself, but it's hard to tell since my collection is arranged by brand instead of color. Did you get the light blue speckle when you ordered Hatch? My Cirque order just arrived yesterday, including Hatch. I can't wait to wear it -- maybe I'll do that today!

Denim blue holos are so easy to wear, they're a comfort polish. I know I have quite a few. One of my favorites is Elevation Polish Melbourne, a low-key holo full of gorgeous shimmer.

    2. Yes, on the Acid Wash speckled polish! I wasn't going to but ended up getting all four of them. Gahhh, what a debate going on in my mind! You'd think I was deciding on which starving country gets food sent to them. Of course, when I received them yesterday, I had just put on a pretty neutral with a holo topcoat that I love so it will be a day or two before Hatch makes its debut on my nails! Sometimes, I feel I have pumped up the expectation too much and won't feel rainbows and sunbeams shooting out my head, like I imagine, when I do get around to using it! LOL Nah, I'll be fine!
I've got darker blues but not sure if they are denim. I Googled that Elevation polish and it is beautiful! Heaven help me from diving into a new blue polish to collect!

    3. Good for you! I hope that you love them!

*lol* Of all the polish enthusiasts that I know, Lara, I think that you must be one of the best equipped to set about hunting down a particular sort of lacquer to add to your collection. Your mission, should you accept it... etc. Have at it!
