Octopus Party Nail Lacquer Go Deep
Go Deep was released by Connecticut-based indie polish maker Octopus Party Nail Lacquer (OPNL) as one-half of an otherwise unnamed oceanic duo in August last year. Described by creator Dave as "an indigo-leaning navy linear holographic," the color is a medium-dark clean cobalty sort of blue loaded with finely-milled holographic pigment. It gives the polish a luminous, delicately-grained appearance in ambient light, and shades the cobalt base with dimensionalizing hues of denim, indigo and sapphire. Direct sun generates a brilliant prismatic display with an inner flame of intense indigo edged by a thin ribbon of bright, sparkling azure and a shifting corona of vivid sparks in green, yellow, orange and red, the whole floating over a gleaming central lick of silvered navy.
Application was delicious. The consistency of Go Deep is fluid, light and silky smooth with a medium viscosity and an effortless, self-leveling slip over the nail. This is a user-friendly formula, amenable to thin or thicker coats and easy to finesse with OPNL's round, flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good, with evenly opaque coverage and rich color delivered in two coats. It was such a joy to paint with that I went on and added a third coat for the photos and thought that it did add a bit of density to the color, but isn't necessary in terms of coverage. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with a bit of pigment travel but no noticeable staining. Go Deep dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat does not inhibit the holographic properties of the polish in any way.
Photos show three coats of Go Deep over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

You can see by the pure prismatic hues of the holographic flare how crisp and unmuddied this beautiful blue is. Compared to the murkier blues towards which I tend to gravitate, this clean shade feels unwaveringly fresh and invigorating. Definitely a blue for year round wear, I think it's a classic that should be part of every polish enthusiast's collection. And you can't beat the formula with a stick!
