A-England Dancing with Nureyev

Like Her Rose Adagio, Dancing with Nureyev was released in late fall 2013 by British boutique polish maker A-England as part of the Ballerina collection, a series of polishes dedicated to the career of British ballerina Dame Margot Fonteyn de Arias (1919-91). This polish was inspired by her long-standing artistic partnership with Soviet dancer Rudolf Khametovich Nureyev, one of the most celebrated male dancers of the 20th century. Their performances were known for inspiring repeated frenzied curtain calls and bouquet tosses. Nureyev once said of Fonteyn that they danced with "one body, one soul."

Dancing with Nureyev is described by creator Adina as "a violet-blue shade that merges beautifully with its prismatic nature, a most sublime partnership." The color is a pale silvery sapphire blue with violet undertones and aspects of lavender mist and periwinkle that reminds me of Crayola's magic scent specialty color, soap. It has a protean soul, sometimes leaning more to violet, sometimes more to blue. The holographic effects are imbued with a certain smoky quality, and give the polish a dusky, semi-metallic finish with a gleaming light sapphire flash in natural light. In the sun, there is a lush scattered prismatic display that's like a diaphanous smoky veil decorated with tiny pinpoints sparks of every rainbow color.

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Dancing with Nureyev is fluid, light and silky smooth with a thin-to-medium viscosity and a creamy, self-leveling slip over the nail -- a perfect example of the high-quality formulas that A-England is known for. Pigmentation is very good, netting completely even, opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy. Dancing with Nureyev dries naturally in good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat adds a becoming gloss and does not interfere with the holographic properties in any way.

Photos show two coats of Dancing with Nureyev over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Dancing with Nureyev is a fan favorite from the Ballerina collection, and the cloudy, shifting blue-violet color with its dusty holographic effects and gleaming flash make it easy to see why. Elegant and graceful on the nail, this soft, silvery shade is pan-seasonal.  If you love your pale blues and violets, this is a great one!

love,
Liz

    1. Thanks, lasoti! It's a wonderful polish! I agree with you about picking a favorite A-England -- I have yet to come across one that didn't impress me. I remember vividly the first time I wore one of Adina's creations: St. George. I was astonished and amazed and enthralled. Love this brand!

  3. This is such an exquisite polish. Love that it could almost be a neutral but then there's all the complexity of it while at the same time appearing almost simple. The polishes that came out of this collection are my favorites of aEngland!

    1. Hey Lara! You're right, it very well could work as a neutral. My favorite thing about it is the smokiness of the holographic effects. Such an elevated aspect, the sophistication of it blows me away.
