Different Dimension Fernweh

Fernweh (pronounced FAIRN-vey, or thereabouts) was released towards the end of September this year by Indiana-based indie polish maker Different Dimension as part of the Wanderlust collection, a series of polishes inspired by creator Missi's desire to travel. The name of this polish is from the German word fernweh, literally "farsickness," coined as an antonym for heimweh, or "homesickness." It is the longing for far-off places, a synonym for wanderlust.

Officially described as an "army green linear holo with added contrasting shimmers," the color here is a fantastic medium-toned olive green, rich and round with a slightly mossy aspect. Superabundant finely-milled holographic pigment nuances the base with shifting dimensional hues of cerulean blue, apple and turtle green and pale misty azure in ambient light, and copious bronze microflake shimmers add a burnished quality to the look, pairing beautifully with a gleaming semi-metallic mossy olive underlay and creating a warm, golden green flash. In the sun there's a brilliant linear holographic flare predominated by sparkling bands of bright azure and spring green with a trailing corona of gold, orange and red sparks that frames the semi-metallic mossy olive underlay.

Application was luscious. The consistency of Fernweh is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and a plush, velvety, self-leveling glide over the nail that has a bit of pull to it. It's an eminently-paintable, user-friendly formula that goes right where you put it and stays there, a real pleasure to work with. Pigmentation is excellent -- it's very nearly opaque in one medium coat, but you'll want two to maximize the rich color and holographic effects. Cleanup is easy. Fernweh dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat does not in any way affect the holographic properties of the polish.

Photos show two coats of Fernweh over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

As a fervent lover of yellow-greens, this polish is a shoo-in! With its rich olivine color, burnished glow and athletic holographic effects, it's everything you want to see in a yellow-green holo. The luxurious warm color, touched by bronze, is especially nice for this time of year, when you're looking for a more full-bodied green to pair with other earthy shades.

As soon as I saw the first review, I fell love with the whole idea of this collection, particularly Missi's use of unusual travel-related names, and ended up ordering four of the six. They're all linear holos in evocative, autumnal colors, totally in my wheelhouse. How about yours?

hasta,
Liz

    1. Drool-bib worthy... I like that! I love yellow-green holos, the blues that incorporate themselves into the prismatics make my eyes happy, and this one has the added je ne sais quoi of the bronze flakies, really splendid.
