SuperChic Lacquer Swoon

Like Cherub and Pheromone, Swoon was released last month by California-based indie polish maker SuperChic Lacquer as part of the Cupid's Bow collection. This is the darker of the two pinks in the collection. Creator Jen describes it as a Barbie pink linear holo, and I'd say that's about right, although on the nail it is so dimensionalized and lighted up by holographic pigment that it comes off as slightly rosier and warmer, kind of like a Mexican pink. Six of one, half-dozen of the other -- the color is rich, bold and gorgeous in any case! The holographic effects are omnipresent, displaying an arc of glowing transparent violet edged by sparks of gold and red in ambient light, with a gleaming semi-metallic underlay of bright Mexican pink. In the sun, there is a brilliant linear holographic flare with a full contingent of sparkling prismatic colors.

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Swoon is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and a buttery, self-leveling slip over the nail. It's an excellent, user-friendly formula that is amenable to thin or thicker coats as preference dictates. Pigmentation is outstanding. One medium coat will net even, fully opaque coverage, but I think two is best for richest color and maximum holographic effects. Cleanup is straightforward. There's a touch of pigment travel but little to no trace staining. Swoon dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that wants a glossy topcoat to look its best. Topcoat does not in any way interfere with the polish's holographic properties.

Photos show two coats of Swoon over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Fantastic! Even Fuzzy, who is aesthetically averse to pinks, couldn't help but admire this polish as she caught sight of it glowing in the rays of the setting sun as we walked down to get the mail. "Look at your nails!" Indeed.

love,
Liz
