Priti NYC Spring Gentian

Priti NYC is a boutique eco-friendly polish brand that has been on my radar for a while and this is my first experience with one of their offerings. Launched in 2005 by founder Kim D'Amato, Priti NYC creates luxury polishes that are 5-free (made without toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin and camphor), cruelty free, vegan friendly and safe for use on children and during pregnancy. Their polish range includes finishes and formulas of all kinds, and have the most lovely names of any polish maker I've ever seen, including the one I have to show you today: Spring Gentian.

Spring Gentian is a deep but vibrant cobalt blue jelly swimming with cerulean blue shimmers. On the nail, it is remarkably bold and striking and the cerulean shimmers sparkle along the axis of light, a beautiful complement to the cobalt blue of the base.

Application was great! The consistency is highly fluid and light but not watery or runny. It has super flow over the nail and lays down effortlessly. Pigmentation is excellent for a jelly but as a jelly this polish is by nature translucent and opacity must be built by degrees with multiple coats. I used three and can still see some visible nail line, but it doesn't really matter to me as the color is so gorgeous and rich. The jelly formula has the sort of translucence that catches and holds light, producing a jewel-like glowing quality. Thanks to the depth of color and formulary wizardry, staining and nail bed imperfections are not visible. Hurray for indiscernible ridges! Priti NYC polishes come equipped with modestly-sized flat flexible brushes that guide the polish precisely around the cuticle area and over the nail. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with no staining of cuticles or skin left behind, a big plus. Spring Gentian dries in average time to a bouncy jelly-like finish with a high gloss.

Photos show three coats of Spring Gentian over Seche Rebuild treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base ridge-filling basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This polish is awesome. It is very close to the color and finish of my beloved VW golf (RIP), which became the cornerstone of my love affair with automotive detailing. I taught myself how to detail on that little hatchback, spending countless hours honing my skills and cultivating a jewel-like shine on the paint.

Spring Gentian needs nothing more than application to reach that state. It just glows with color. It's exquisite. And it has me wishing I could try more of Priti NYC's polishes. I was lucky enough to score Spring Gentian on ebay for a paltry sum, very unusual, but at $15 per, this is a high end brand for me. Still, after my experience with this one and going through the polishes on the website, I am mightily tempted.

love,
Liz
