Going in Circles is part of a polish collection that China Glaze released late last year called Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away. It is a brilliant saturated medium emerald green glass fleck shimmer, with abundant bright green highly reflective shard-like shimmers carried in a well-tinted transparent green base. It dries to a smooth incredibly sparkly foily finish. Green polish enthusiasts have been known to fall to their knees and weep when they apply this! Ok, not really. But it's one of the most beloved green shimmers anywhere and rightly so. It's absolutely stunning.
Formula-wise I found Going in Circles to be quite liquid and wanting to travel. Thankfully the Butter London Nail Foundation basecoat that I use lays down a solid track that even the runniest polish tends to follow (one of the things I love most about this basecoat). So when I'm careful I don't swipe my cuticles nearly as much as I used to. The same cannot be said for the skin around the free edges of my nails, which I'm afraid to say received liberal swipings of Going in Circles during application. This polish is not all that easy to remove from skin either. The shardy shimmers disperse with acetone and while my fingers aren't as sparkly at the moment as my nails are, they are more sparkly than they should be.
Going in Circles applies a tad sheerly with the first coat but achieves a solid opacity with two. Photos show two coats over my routine treatment/basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite to accelerate the drying process.

What a beauty, eh? Do you love it? Such a clear penetrating perfectly balanced green! It sparkles like a crazy thing in direct light and in dim light and shade each glassy shard emits a glowing metallic gleam. The shards overlap each other in the layers of polish, giving the finish a delicious speckled look. A polish enthusiast blogging about this polish said about those shards, "It's like someone blew up the emerald city and these tiny fragments are all that is left." Love that!
Going in Circles extravagant and showy and proud of it. It can't help but be noticed by every eye within viewing range, it's the kind of polish that can light up a room. But for all that, you can't help feeling that the show is for you and you are the star.
I decided to try a matte topcoat with Going in Circles. My go-to matte-ifier, Essie Matte About You, has started throwing white flecks when used. I've read about this happening but don't know if it's age or exposure to air or both that causes the flecks. I have an unopened bottle of Matte About You and will try using that instead next time. Anyway if you notice any white flecks on my nails, that's the deal.
Photos show one coat of Essie Matte About You over the manicure above.

Just turns it into the plushest must luxurious green velvet ever, doesn't it? Going in Circles is only a little less startlingly beautiful matte, the glow is amazing. It feels like something a Bond girl would wear. Sleek, sexy, dangerous! RAWR!
Shall I add this to the list to bring the next time I visit?
love,
Aunt Liz
