Aqua Pixel is the only polish from the MegaPixel FX collection that I have, and I just got it today at Sally's when I ran in for polish remover. It was marked down to $5.99 from $10 and I have it on my wish list so hey, I HAD to get it. And I'm glad I did because, my dear, it is striking!
Aqua Pixel is a light icy metallic aquamarine blue polish jam packed with aquamarine microglitters, silvery aqua shimmer, aqua colored texture particles (read: grit) and small silvery hex glitters. Coverage is excellent, one coat is very nearly opaque but lacks the depth of color that additional coats provide. Still if you were going for a more silvery less aqua look, one coat would get you there with sparkle to spare.
This is a very well-behaved polish. Application was a breeze and the glitter/particle spread was even and non-clumping. Aqua Pixel dries naturally to a gritty finish quite comparable, I think, to Zoya's Pixie Dust finish. I've read a lot of reviews where folks didn't feel that the finish of these MegaPixel FX polishes was textured enough, that it was no more textured than regular glitter polish. I beg to differ. With regular glitter polishes you will often be able to feel the glitter but you feel it THROUGH the polish. With Aqua Pixel, it feels like all of the glitters and texture particles are right there on top because they are.
Photos show two coats of Aqua Pixel over treatment and basecoat. No topcoat. I must add that as textured polishes go, this one is much easier to photograph than the Zoya Pixie Dusts I've featured here. I don't think Aqua Pixel knows how to take a bad picture. I was very happy with almost all of the photos I took. Maybe that's why I've included so many of them... or maybe I've craftily inserted subliminal messages into them about cleaning your room, folding your laundry, sorting through your clothes and donating all the stuff that you don't wear anymore to Good Will! Ah hah! I wish. *wink*

I am totally digging this polish, aren't you? The sparkle, shimmer and icy blue color are so flattering and unexpected. It makes me feel like an ICE QUEEN! I love the relatively sparse but still quite flashy small silver glitters dotting the textured surface. The look reminds me of the phrase "encrusted with jewels" that you always see describing something in fairy tales and myths and fantasy lit and the like. It's like I've got real pulverized aquamarine gemstones on my nails... or maybe it's more like sky blue topaz.... Either way, I am the ICE QUEEN! Makes my nails look longer than they actually are too, which is cool.
For the record, I have no inclination at all to topcoat this polish and mess with the gorgeous matte metallic look. It is just too gorgeous the way it is. Also, however much I love Aqua Pixel the only other polish in the MegaPixel FX collection that I'd purchase would be Silver Pixel. The other colors (Rose, Plum, Pink) aren't pigmented enough to me to stand out the way this one does, and Black Pixel doesn't have the small sequin hex glitters that, to me, really make the look. I bet they had trouble sourcing small black hexes that behaved properly, didn't fade or bleed or something. Why else would they not include them? Man, Orly should have put small gunmetal holo hexes in Black Pixel, that would have been CHOICE!
And if they'd done a GREEN Pixel, well that would've taken the cake!
love,
Aunt Liz

ReplyDeleteThank you, Kaila, I'm glad you enjoyed the photos! I believe you can still find this one, if not in brick and mortar stores then definitely on ebay.
