KBShimmer She Twerks Out

She Twerks Out was released by indie polish maker KBShimmer as part of the 2014 Early Summer Collection in May. It is one of three fun textured glitter polishes from that collection, with an intensely bright turquoise translucent jelly base that is loaded with microglitters and three sizes of holographic hex glitters in teal, lime green, aqua and violet. Drying to a matte-ish textured finish, it's a sensuous glowing mermaid's grotto of a polish. Add a glossy topcoat and it becomes a dazzling tropical sea fantasy, throwing sparks of color from the holo glitters like sun off of ocean wavelets.

Application was fun! The consistency of She Twerks out is fluid but slightly gel-like and dense with components. Never the less, it has good flow over the nail and is easy to manipulate. The jelly base is translucent, so coverage is largely accomplished by the components and is easily built to opacity in two or three coats, depending upon thickness at application and personal preference as to look. I used two coats, and while I had a few spots with less glitter than others I was quite happy with how it looked. Cleanup is best done as you go along, lest the glitters adhere to skin and cuticles and become difficult to remove. This polish sets and surface dries quickly, but underneath the polish remains tender for a bit longer and is vulnerable to scrapes and denting. But it's a very forgiving polish. Should it suffer a scrape, a dot or two of fresh polish will mend it like it was never there. She Twerks Out dries naturally in good time to a matte finish with a slightly gritty texture from the glitters.

Photos show two coats of She Twerks Out over treatment and basecoat with no topcoat to show the natural finish.

And of course I had to try a glossy topcoat with it as well. I used a glitter-smoothing coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food and finished with a topcoat of Glisten and Glow HK Girl.

I really can't say which I prefer, natural or topcoat, because they are both just awesome. This polish has the power to throw any viewer into an instant reverie. I showed my nails to John, who lit up with a smile and pondered them for a while before responding. "That one's near the top," he said. This from a man who has seen a different polish on my nails every day for over a year now.

KBShimmer deserves every bit of praise received for these newly developed textured-finish glitter bombs. They are an original, unique and wholly successful take on the textured polish trend. The combination of component colors in She Twerks Out is just gorgeous and the polish itself brims with lighthearted fun and evocative graphic beauty. I've enjoyed every minute of wearing it, and can see myself going back for the other two colors of this new genre in the near future.

love,
Liz

  1. This is breath taking. Love those surprise bits of purple. Definitely my favorite from that collection!

    1. Mine too, Thithi. That those bits of purple and bright green have the same value/depth as the turquoise makes this rich riot of color work so very well as a whole. This is one that I really really didn't want to take off, it's every bit as lovely to wear as you could imagine.
