Pahlish Forest of the Dead

Forest of the Dead was released by indie polish maker Pahlish as part of the All of Time and Space Part One collection earlier this year. It has a deep mossy green jelly base full of coppery flecks and duochromatic flaky shimmers with a green/blue color shift. This is a very rich dark green that is speckled with coppery brown, blue and green in indirect light. Full sun brightens the color significantly, and brilliant scintillating emerald sparks dazzle the eye.

Application was lovely. The consistency is fluid and dense with excellent flow over the nail and a beautiful balance between fluidity and viscosity. It's a very well-behaved polish that isn't sticky or goopy in the least and applies in an even, self-leveling manner. Pigmentation is excellent. Forest of the Dean could easily be a one-coater, although I applied two for the photos. Cleanup is easy and appeared to be non-staining, although I found out differently after removal. Luckily it's the sort of staining that disappears completely after a scrub with soap and water. This polish dries naturally in very good time to a slightly flat finish with a tiny bit of texture from the components. I used one coat of Gelous to smooth the surface followed by a coat of Seche Vite, which pops the colors of the shimmers.

Photos show two coats of Forest of the Dean over treatment and basecoat followed by one coat of Gelous and a topcoat of Seche Vite. I took these pics early in the morning and although they aren't as bright as I would have like them to be they are an accurate representation of the depth of the color in indirect light.

Shannon, the owner and creative force behind Pahlish, is a genuis with shimmer polishes and Forest of the Dead is certainly a beautiful example of her skills. Forest of the Dead belongs to the same collection as Madman in a Box, another extraordinary shimmer.

Things move quickly in Palish's big cartel store, and it's sometimes difficult to catch certain polishes if they've been out for a while. Luckily, Pahlish is also stocked at Lacquer Chic and Llarowe, and you can often find polishes there that have sold out at Pahlish's shop.

For lovers of green, Forest of the Dead is one of those must-have polishes, a deep complex beauty with a richness that is profound and unique. The ratio of components to base is perfect in every way. The color, while dark, is simutaneously sinister and regal in its splendor and the combination of shimmer components provides substantial depth and visual interest to this moody, elegant and bewitching composition.

love,
Liz
