KBShimmer Whole Lava Lovin'

Whole Lava Lovin' was released by indie polish maker KBShimmer as part of the Valentine's Day Trio in February this year. Officially described as a cherry red linear holo, that's exactly what it is. It has a medium ruby red base with intense berry pink overtones liberally dosed with finely milled holographic pigments that produce a linear prismatic flair in almost any light. The rainbow colors of the holo flair further influence how the base color appears -- more red in bright direct light and more pink in others.

Application was really nice. The consistency of Whole Lava Lovin' is fluid, creamy and dense, with silky smooth texture that flows beautifully over the nail in an even, self-leveling manner. Pigmentation is very good, with supremely even coverage that can be worn at one, two or three coats depending on the depth of color desired. I used three coats, mainly because I had a scrape to repair that occurred after the second coat. This is a well-behaved, forgiving polish. To repair the scrape I simply dotted the bare spot with polish using the brush, let it set and smoothed it with another coat of polish. Cleanup after this polish is easy, straightforward and non-staining. Whole Lava Lovin' dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish. The addition of topcoat does not diminish the holo effects in any way that I could tell.

Photos show three coats of Whole Lava Lovin' over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

KBShimmer Whole Lava Lovin', with bonus topcoat bubbles... hey, it wouldn't be one of my manicures without a topcoat bubble somewhere!

This is such an impressive little holo! As you can see, flame-shaped rainbow flairs abound even in the dimming indirect light of late afternoon coming from my bathroom skylight. In direct sun, it was almost too much for my camera to handle. I took some photos outside as the sun headed toward the horizon....

You can see in these outdoor photos how the red really comes out in direct light.

All in all, a beautifully formulated linear holo in a great color with prismatic performance that is sure to please. Delicious!

love,
