Pahlish Blood of the Mountain

Blood of the Mountain was released by indie polish maker Pahlish as part of the Fall 2103 Part Two collection. Officially described as a "garnet red holographic with gold and pink metallic microflakes," this is a medium-dark lush red-violet polish dense with small particulate holographic pigments that flush the color with red, purple and blue nuances and produce a linear prismatic display in direct and indirect light. The tiny shardy flakes of gold and pink glow ember-like from within the polish in colors of copper and pink, and combined with the influx of holo pigment give the polish a coppery flash.

Application was very nice. Blood of the Mountain has a fluid, dense, slightly oily consistency that is a pleasure to apply. With excellent self-leveling flow over the nail, it lays down precisely and evenly without running, pooling or stacking of the microflakes. Pigmentation is also excellent. Satisfactory opacity can be achieved with one coat, although for fullest, richest color and most even coverage you'll want two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with a little bit of recalcitrance from the flakies. Blood of the Mountain dries naturally in good time to a slightly flat finish with a tiny bit of texture from the microflakes. Topcoat enhances the base color of the polish, the brilliance of the holo display and the glow from the flakies.

Photos show two coats of Blood of the Mountain over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite, and were taken outdoors under overcast skies about an hour before sunset.

What a gorgeous polish this is! It has the richness, luminosity and sheen of woven silk, and with the coppery sparks from the flakies it's very much like having fine miniature tapestries on your nails. This could be a perfect holiday polish for winter, it has that kind of celebratory glamour, very glowy and rich. The holographic display is out of this world, as you can see in the photos; it lights up the base of the polish with brilliant waves of red and purple and blue, so pretty! And the coppery pink flash that bounces off of the surface of the polish under artificial lighting especially just makes this polish all the more stunning.

Fabulous!

love,
Liz

  1. This is gorgeous! You captured it beautifully. This reminds me that I need to start wearing my small collection of Pahlish. I was so tempted to get their one stack batch of Chrysocolla. I sadly passed on it though as gorgeous as it was. What about you, did you get it?

    1. Thank you, dear! No, I didn't get Chrysocolla. Things come and go so quickly in that shop, you know? Well, relatively quickly compared with some others. If you see something you like, you better get it because it'll be gone before you know it. Shannon has a polish in her shop now that I keep thinking about called La Belle Endormie, a purple jelly with golden shimmer that looks so rich! I know if I don't get it I'll be kicking myself later! Sometimes, though, you can find some of her older polishes at shops like Llarowe and Lacquer Chic....
