Rainbow Honey Grayscale

Grayscale was released by indie polish and cosmetics maker Rainbow Honey as part of the November 2014 Mystery Bag. Described by Dee, the owner and creative force behind Rainbow Honey as "a modern graphite lacquer packed with white crushed diamond and silver glitters," I would classify it as a chunky shimmer polish (my favorite kind!) rather than a glitter. It has a medium-dark smooth grey creme/jelly hybrid base bearing abundant variably-shaped flaky shimmers in a metallic champagne color with a touch of iridescence to them. They add a whimsical, romantic touch to the moody grey base, combining the chic athleticism of the grey with a flurry of soft feminine sparkle. Lovely!

Application was fantastic. Grayscale has a fluid, creamy consistency with a smooth glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. The flaky shimmers, although relatively large in size, do not interfere with application in any way. Pigmentation is very good, with completely even, opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Grayscale dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Grayscale over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is such an elegant, eminently wearable neutral dark grey, graphite is the perfect word for it! And although it deepens in low light, it never looks black. The shimmers are gorgeous, against the grey they remind me of snow in the night. It was photos of this beauty by Marisa over on her blog Tiny Twinklings that provoked my exaggerated covet response and got me to shell out for the November Mystery Bag from Rainbow Honey. I'm so glad I did!

love,
Liz

  1. "Chic athleticism", what an awesome description! There are few things more satisfying than a novel linguistic illustration. I'm so glad you got this, too!! It's so perfect for you <3 I just got this month's mystery bag in the mail, and the scent ("Muscovite") is basically Christmas in a bottle, though it seems very unusual for a lotion/perfume... when I was first sniffing it I was like, "hmm, I wonder what Liz would think of this!" Think holiday candles: cranberry, cinnamon, balsam, even sugar plum. It's unique, that's for sure.

    1. Thank you, Marissa! I agree with you about the satisfaction that comes from getting the words right, it's just the best! Grayscale is a great polish for chunky shimmer lovers like me, and the formula is perfect.

I love spices and confers in fragrances, they are my favorite. I just ordered one of my all time winter favorites from SonomaScentStudio.com, a wonderful indie perfumer in California. I splurged on a full bottle of Incense Pure. It smells like woodsmoke in a forest, so good! I love her non-florals so much but her florals are wonderful too. She has a new-to-me floral on her list, Yin and Ylang, that I almost ordered a sample of but went with Spiced Citrus and Vetiver instead. I recommend her 'fumes highly, and she has sample sizes available for purchase also. Swing over and take a look if you're curious about artisanal perfumery, I think you'd enjoy her site!
