Elevation Polish Mystical Lagoon

Mystical Lagoon came to me gratis in a recent order from indie polish maker Elevation Polish as gracious compensation when a polish I'd ordered turned out to be out of stock. Team Elevation included a bottle of Ave Secretan gratis as well -- such is the generosity of Elevation's customer service! This kind of thing is the reason I love buying indie polishes, they are truly invested in their customers' happiness and will do everything they can to ensure it.

I suspect that Mystical Lagoon may be one of creator Lulu's small batch prototypes or one-offs, as I can find neither hide nor hair of its existence anywhere on the interwebz. If you've ever tried to snag an Elevation sbp, you know how difficult it is. Even if I didn't get this one by conventional means, I'm thrilled to have it. All the more so as it is GORGEOUS -- a medium-dark oceanic teal blue, almost what I'd call an Atlantic blue, with what appears to be tiny lavender/blue color-shifting flake shimmers and a modicum of fine holographic pigment. It has a slightly clearer, more cerulean aspect than Muztagh Ata, and a more scattered holo. On the nail it is rich and dimensional, lighting up with tiny sparkles like stars in the night sky and throwing a sleek, silvery blue flash in dim light.

Application was lovely. The consistency of Mystical Lagoon is fluid, smooth and full-bodied, with a creamy, self-leveling flow over the nail. It seemed to prefer to go on in medium to thick coats, with no pooling or patch-pulling. Pigmentation was very good -- I used two medium coats to ensure completely even opacity and full bottle color. Cleanup was easy and straightforward. Mystical Lagoon dries in average time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat pops the bright blue of the shimmers.

Photos show two coats of Mystical Lagoon over Seche Rebuild treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

How divine is this shade? I'm unabashedly smitten. With its rich visual texture and delicious color, it has the sort of splendid organic beauty that while plush seems perfectly natural. It feels more than merely decorative, almost like it belongs on the nail. Lulu has a way of constructing polishes like this, that are so much more than the sum of their parts.

I hope that there are plans for this polish to be released as part of a collection in the future, it's just too lovely to let fall by the wayside.

love,
Liz
