Lumina Lacquer Lights over Rescue Beauty Lounge Opaque Nude

Lights was released by indie polish maker Lumina Lacquer as part of the Holiday 2014 collection. Described as a "holo fine glitter mix of red, orange, gold, blues, purples, and greens," once you factor in the holographic effects you can see nearly every color under the sun in this glitter bomb. All of these glitters together twinkle and flash in a fantastic representation of multicolored Christmas lights. Every now and then I get to craving a multicolored glitter bomb sparkler, and Lights is a fully functional scratch for that itch.

Application was a breeze. I took a clue from the ever gracious Jennifer of My Nail Polish Obsession and decided to layer this over a nude base. Using my Rescue Beauty Lounge Opaque Nude from yesterday, I applied two medium to thick coats of Lights over top. The consistency of Lights is full-bodied and dense with glitters but not sticky or goopy. It spreads rather than flows over the nail, but is easy to work with especially over a base. Having a base to work off of is also handy because this is not a polish you can wrap your tips with. Glitter payoff is very good, with an abundant amount of glitters per brushful that distribute evenly over the nail with a bit of dabbing. Coverage being a function of the components, multiple coats are necessary for any degree of opacity but I found I only needed two coats to achieve the full-coverage look I was after. Cleanup is best done as you go along, but I found I didn't need much as the components generally kept to the defined shape of the base polish. Lights dries naturally in very good time to a typically glitter-textured finish. I smoothed it with a layer of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food before adding topcoat for a "mop 'n' glow" finish, as my friend Melissa of Lacquer Reverie calls it.

I adore this! Given the rainbow of colors it generates, no way should this be relegated to solely holiday use. Shoot, honey! Wear it any day of the year and bask in the multi-hued cloud of sparkle on your fingertips. Waggle your fingers in front of the masses, flutter them deftly as you swipe your debit card at the grocery check out, point dramatically to the printer ink cartridges you need at the office supply, extend them purposefully to grasp the free weights at the gym and wait for the gasp of surprise and delight from a perfect stranger (or friend) and the inevitable clutching at your hand for closer inspection that results!
