Picture Polish Pandora

Pandora was released by Australian boutique polish maker Picture Polish as one of its new shades for 2014. This is a re-branded, re-release of 624 from the now discontinued Ozotic brand, and originally appeared on polish blogs when it was included as one of the polishes sent to bloggers for Picture Polish's Blogfest 2014. It's part of their Opulence line of scattered holo polishes that are sparkly but do not contain glitter. The base color is a deep plummy purple that is chock full of Picture Polish's signature holo flakes, which not only blanket the base with multi-colored sparks but also imbue it with a linear holo flair in direct light. In bright indirect light, there is a dramatic dimensional glow similar to a flair, but predominated by a beautiful shade of golden berry pink. In full sun, the flat shape and relatively large size of the holographic material make possible almost every kind of holo effect you can imagine. It's wonderful to see!

Application was good. The consistency of Pandora is fluid, creamy and dense with excellent self-leveling properties. I struggled with the first coat; it kept wanting to patch as I applied it. The technique I ended up using was to load the brush generously with a good sized bead of polish and apply a thicker coat than I would typically use. The second coat went on much more smoothly, with no patching. Pigmentation is very good with completely even opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup took a little care, with a bit of residual staining to cuticles and skin. Pandora dries naturally in very good time to a finish so slick, smooth and shiny it's almost like it has a topcoat built into it. The addition of topcoat did not diminish the holo effects of the polish at all.

Photos show two coats of Pandora over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is one of those polishes that however attractive it may be in the bottle is infinitely more stunning and dynamic on the nail. The holo effects totally suffuse it in direct sun and they mix so beautifully with the purple base that every nail is miniature transient demonstration of light play. Even in dim light, such as the subdued incandescent lamp light in my office, there's a discrete but poignantly lovely bloom of the rosy golden berry color that travels up and down my nails as I shift them to various angles. Amazing polish!

love,
Liz

  1. Oh my...this is like Zoya Aurora's better-behaved sister! By that, I mean smaller holo particles that don't look like sand. Sorry...I'm always ranting about Aurora. One day I shall break down and purchase a PP for my very own. :)

    1. It's very similar to Aurora, Melissa. I was going to feature Aurora next and stretch this little purpley-berry holo polish series to three but St. Patrick's day intervened. I've actually only worn it once and was so underwhelmed I did not feature it on the blog, but I'm game to try it again. Perhaps it will perk up on a sunny day!

I rather like the sandy speckling of large holo particles and the way they layer over each other to produce holo effects from deep within the polish.

Listen, if you would like some Picture Polish just sing out and I will send you whichever ones you're interested in from my stash, uh, I mean collection. ;p Let me know!

  2. Oooh, does this one ever sing in the sun! I've been loving the (unofficial) Pandora theme here on Lacquer Slacker Liz lately; I only (finally) saw Avatar last summer, and positively bawled when Home Tree was destroyed. (Named a Structures project after it, actually; the final project was to build a tower model that our professors then tore down, to demonstrate affects of overwhelming lateral forces on wood frame structures. But I digress.) Your recent posts prompted me to start trying out my RBLs, but I still need to get to my Pictures!! This is so so gorgeous on you, I might just have to do so... very soon. :) Still have some St. Patrick's Day polishes to get through first!!

    1. Doesn't it ever! I took over a hundred photos of this one out in the yard alone, which I'll never do again because it makes selecting and editing the pics a real chore. I was originally on the hunt for Picture Polish Moscow and when it wasn't in stock I ended up getting Pandora instead. Now that Moscow is back in stock at Color4Nails I really should pick it up. I love the Opulence polishes!

Oooh, I hope we get to see Bicicleta on your blog soon!

I've got a little St. Patrick's Day run of greens coming up starting tomorrow, a holo, a shimmer and a multichromatic glass fleck. Gosh I love green polish....

    2. Oh, the endless photo reel... that gave me a good, deep belly laugh. I always end up doing that with the most dynamic, complex polishes, against my better judgement because I KNOW it will be so taxing to sift through all the beautiful photos and try to decide exactly which one is the MOST beautiful. It's the impossible task. :)

Yayayy, I love holiday/seasonal polish! Can't wait to see your greens! Oooh yes thank you for reminding me, I will be sure to grab up Bicicletta in Montana when I turn over my Portland stash from late winter/early spring to FULL ON SPRINGTIME :D
