Pretty Serious The Dragon's Curse

The Dragon's Curse was released by Australian indie polish maker Pretty Serious Cosmetics around the beginning of March with the debut set of the ongoing Naileontology collection, a series of polishes based on discontinued and vintage lacquers. It's an incredible light fresh fern green bearing profuse ultrafine golden particulate shimmers. The combination of the base, which has a blue tint, with the abundant gold shimmers suspended like a mist within produces a luminous dimensional milky quality to the color reminiscent of fine jade. Kaz's formulary skills take my breath away -- this is an amazing, unique shimmer composition that is so magical on the nail you can hardly take your eyes off of it.

Application was equally amazing. Formulaic perfection! The consistency of The Dragon's Curse is fluid, creamy and dense with an effortless, buttery glide over the nail. It self-levels like a dream. I so deeply appreciate polishes like this, which give every indication of serious intentions toward providing a high quality application experience. Pigmentation is excellent with near one-coat coverage and completely even opacity in two. Given the abundance of shimmers, I thought it would show brushstrokes, but they mostly smoothed and disappeared as the polish set and dried. I did end up with brushstrokes noticeably evident on one nail, but that was the result of an unfortunate collision with my hair as I went to don my glasses and my own finagling to fix the damage. Cleanup was easy and straightforward. The Dragon's Curse dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish. Sweet!

Photos show two coats of The Dragon's Curse over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

No photograph, however well rendered, can prepare you for what this polish is like in person -- it's so luminous and dimensional it's like having a veneer of glowing, translucent jade on your fingertips. Fuzzy liked it very much as well, "it reminds me of silk." And she's right. The Dragon's Curse has an eye-appeal and dimensional luster similar to silk crepe de chine or dupioni. Really striking. Imagine a dress in silk this color!

Love green polish? Get this one. Your collection isn't complete without it!

love,
Liz

    3. C'EST LA FUZZ!! Oh my goodness Liz girl, I can't wait :D :D :D You know, I seem to recall you saying that light greens generally don't work for you, and yet I think this one looks just beautiful on your skintone! What's the tipping point, do you think (for future reference, haha ;) )?

    4. This polish is special! The base is actually a blue-green and with the gold it makes the jade color. I don't know why it works on me except that it is an exceptional composition that probably looks good on almost anyone! Pastels, in general, don't work well with my pinkage. Kelly greens I just don't care for. I seem to have a love/hate thing going on with sea foam type greens. Sometimes they look great, sometimes they just sit there and wish they were somewhere else. *lol* But, hey, I'm willing to try anything! :)
