ILNP Time in a Bottle

Time in a Bottle was released by Nevada-based boutique polish maker I Love Nail Polish (ILNP) as part of the Holiday 2015 collection and a new addition to ILNP's Ultra Metallics line. The color of the jelly base of this polish is difficult to pin down, but if you can imagine a bright saturated Tiffany blue, it's kind of like that. A Bondi blue. Greener than a sky blue but not green enough to be a teal, it's definitely a member of the cyan family. It's actually rather like the color of Swiss blue topaz, and reminds me quite a lot of that gemstone with the uber sparkliness of its semi-metallic finish. If it weren't as flashy as it is, I'd say it had a tropical sort of vibe, like the shallow waters you see over a coral reef. But it's such a dazzler -- in addition to the superabundant silver flakies, it also bears a generous sprinkling of holographic particles that sparkle in bright prismatic colors in the sun -- that it immediately brings to mind some fabulous party dress that you'd wear for New Year's Eve. Something haute and shimmery. I can totally see rocking this polish for New Year's!

Application was wonderful. The formulas of this collection have been consistently excellent for every polish that I've tried: fluid, smooth, easy to control and manipulate. Time in a Bottle is equally so, with a near effortless glide over the nail, perfectly behaved components and outstanding self-leveling qualities. Completely even, opaque coverage is obtained in two coats. It could be done in one with sufficient mojo and a generous hand, but two thinner coats will be less vulnerable to dents and mars and will produce a manicure that's less likely to chip. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Don't worry too much about any free-ranging silver flakies on your nail environs, I've found that for the most part they'll give up the ghost with a good handwashing once your manicure is dry. Thank goodness! Time in a Bottle dries naturally in very good time to a shiny finish with only the slightest discernible gently pebbled texture from the flakies, easily smoothed by a layer of topcoat.

Photos show two coats of Time in a Bottle over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Winter's golden, oblique-angled light has been messing with my camera's ability to capture true colors. Its typically been pretty dependable in that aspect for a little point and shoot. I've also noticed that it has a hard time generally rendering these Ultra Metallics, there's so much light play going on with them. Time in a Bottle is a glamorous shade but it's also quite vibrant and fresh.

I must admit that when I first received my bottles, I was a little apprehensive about ILNP's choice of so many Ultra Metallics for this collection. But each color has turned out to reveal a distinct personality, and they are all so very festive on the nail that it now makes much more sense to me. I didn't order every Holiday 2015 polish and still have one more to swatch from the selection I did make, but I'm going to go ahead and call Time in a Bottle my surprise favorite of the bunch. This brilliant Bondi blue, all glammed up and blinged out by the silver flakies and holo particles, just sends me!

love,
Liz

  1. Ugh, I feel my weakness for blue polish kicking in... Seriously though, this polish is go-jus! I delayed my order for the winter and holiday 2015 ILNP polishes. I have so much I wanted extra time to think things through. But beautiful nail polish (and isn't most of it beautiful!) kindles my emotions, not my logic. Hahah, it Does manipulate my logic side by telling me that I don't have any exactly like this and so I need dis! Logic, see? :D

    1. Sure, Lara, whatever you say! ;)

Seriously, though, if you're going to select from ILNP's Holiday collection, don't forget the rosegold Juliette, which seems to be polish enthusiasts' favorite from the bunch. Rose gold looks like death on me, so I didn't get it. But you're a gold wearer, right? That one may suit you even better than Time in a Bottle!
