Dreamland Lacquer Dragonberry

Dragonberry was released last month by Missouri-based indie polish maker Dreamland Lacquer, formerly Smitten Polish, as one of two custom polishes for April created by Noelie exclusively for members of the Hella Holo Customs (HHC) facebook group. HHC is a private group that solicits selected polish makers for custom polishes every month, which are then available only to members via a special ordering code or link posted in the group. It's easy to join! Just send an email to hellaholocustoms@gmail.com with “join” in the subject line and your facebook profile name in the message.

Dragonberry is a well-pigmented medium-dark vivid magenta linear holo with aspects of orchid and berry. Abundant finely-milled holographic pigment nuances the base color into a ravishing melange of intense hues -- steel pink, violet, and cerise. In bright ambient light the color has a stunning, neon-like potency that is absolutely fierce! Direct sun generates a creme holo's analogously-colored linear flare predominated by a near-fluorescent band of mixed indigo, violet and blue framing a central lick of gleaming, semi-metallic shocking pink and edged by a slender sparkling ribbon of bright red before shading to a deep cerise pink at the edges of the nail. In low light and shade, the color takes on a rich, feminine purple-leaning berried look, and flashes bright pink under incandescent light.

Application was delightful. The consistency of Dragonberry is fluid, light and very smooth with a thin-to-medium viscosity and a silky, self-leveling slip over the nail that is a joy to work with. It likes to go on in thinner to medium coats and is easy to finesse with Dreamland's flattened, flexible brush. Pigmentation is excellent. A thin first coat will show a tiny bit of sheerness that builds quickly to completely even opaque coverage with the second. I added a third to see if it would make a difference and I believe it did give the polish a slightly richer, more dense-looking opacity, but the color is so intense anyway that it might have been a trick of the mind. Cleanup is surprisingly easy, with very little pigment travel for such a powerfully-pigmented formula and almost no residual staining. Dragonberry dries naturally in very good time to an exceptionally glossy finish for a holo. Topcoat does not interfere with the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

Photos show three coats of Dragonberry over Pretty Serious Rock On treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Sleek and glossy on the nail, the holographically-nuanced color is absolutely exuberant with an unabashedly vivacious aspect that is simply stunning, and the holographic display in the sun is nothing short of electric. I've been admiring it in different lights all day and can't get enough of looking at it!

Utterly gorgeous!

love,
Liz

  1. Why, oh why, didn't I get this! I must not have been in my right mind. I saw swatches and posts about it but I was 'meh' about it. I did think it was pretty - but something held me back. I don't particularly like blue purple polishes but the red/berry purple polishes I do. I don't know what was going through my mind! Of course, I had not seen your gorgeous photos yet.... :D
Looks like I might have to go hunting for a bottle someone wants to sell! It is stunning!

    1. Hey, thanks so much for posting this on the HHC page, Lara! A month or so ago someone left a comment on one of my posts that freaked me out so much that I deleted the post and "unjoined" that page. I'm over it now and have requested a "rejoin." But thanks for sharing it -- thanks to you this page is seeing a lot of traffic, which always gives me a thrill! *lol*

I hope that you're able to score a bottle of this one, my dear -- I have a feeling that you'd love wearing it!
