Elevation Polish Scrape with Screw

Scrape with Screw was released by Minnesota-based indie polish maker Elevation Polish as part of the Journey Told Through Music 2 collection in October 2015. This series of polishes was inspired by some of creator Lulu's favorite songs, a continuation of the Journey Told Through Music 1 collection released in January 2015. The inspiration for Scrape with Screw is Flétta by Antony and the Johnsons, a chamber/art pop composition with stream of consciousness-style lyrics in Icelandic.

Described as a cranberry red medium density holographic polish, Scrape with Screw has a profoundly-pigmented jelly base that is a very deep, rich variation of ruby along the lines of Pantone's rubine red. It has just enough finely-milled holographic pigment in it to provoke a bit of sparkle and give it a dimensionalizing interior glow in bright ambient light. Under the halogens in the kitchen, it generates a low-density prismatic flare with trace sparkles surrounding a glowing indigo heart, but we're overcast and rainy once again here today so I didn't have a chance to see or photograph it in direct sun mode. The star of this show is definitely the wonderfully vampy color with its velvety radiance and bright red flash.

Application was luscious. The consistency of Scrape with Screw is fluid, smooth and dense with a thicker viscosity that I thinned to medium and a plush, self-leveling glide over the nail that has some pull to it. It's not a sticky polish, though, and went on best for me in medium coats from a well-loaded brush. Pigmentation is outstanding with near one-coat coverage, but given the built-in jelly translucence two will provide the most even opacity. Cleanup is something you're not going to want to do a lot of due to significant pigment travel and residual staining, but it's not insurmountable. Scrape with Screw dries naturally in good time to a beautiful glossy finish.

Photos show two coats of Scrape with Screw over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Fuzzy's new tv arrived today, to replace the one that got fried by the lightening strike. I went to set it up for her and she noticed this polish right away: "Oh look at your nails!" The color is amazing, so lush and velvety, and I was struck by just how spectacular it really is. I never anticipate falling for very deep shades like this, but it is just so classically beautiful and flattering that it's won my heart. If you like your colors deep and dangerous, you can't go wrong with this glorious red!

  2. Mama Mia! This polish sends a shiver up my spine, it's so gorgeous! As soon as I saw it, Grabby Hands set in. There is a voice telling me I don't need any more red polishes, no matter what their finish, but, heheh, it is getting fainter and fainter! I have the I Wants really bad!

    1. *lol* Love those grabby hands! As you can see by my bro-in-law's comment above, this is a red to melt the hearts of men (and women, for that matter) everywhere. Sexy and operatic!
