Colors by Llarowe Shiny Happy People

Shiny Happy People was released by Colorado-based indie polish maker Colors by Llarowe as part of the Summer 2016 collection towards the end of last month. Officially described as a "periwinkle blue with purple sheen scattered holo with intense shimmer that shifts pink to copper to green," the base color is indeed a gentle, somewhat translucent periwinkle (for some reason I was expecting it to be darker) that is misty with microflakes shimmers and holographic particles. In ambient light, the shimmer is clearly visible in its pink mode, surrounded by a subtle band of aqua that may be a holographic effect -- there is so much shimmery goodness in this polish that it's hard to tell! Shading the edges is a cloudier periwinkle shade that gives this polish a lit-from-within look. Direct sun brightens the base color to azure and elicits a dazzling colorful scattered holographic display, with a heart of pink and a sparkling field of mixed colors with azure, aqua and bright mint predominating.

Application was quite agreeable. The consistency of Shiny Happy People is fluid, light and slightly fluffy with a medium viscosity and a smooth, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is on the sheer side and a tiny bit streaky on the first coat, but builds to wearable opacity after two. I used three coats for the photos. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Shiny Happy People dries naturally in good time to a somewhat flat finish that wants a good topcoat to look its best. Topcoat also works to emphasize the presence and effects of the color-shifting microflake shimmers.

Photos show three coats of Shiny Happy People over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is one of those polishes that needs to be experienced in person. My photos certainly do it no justice. The pinkish sheen is visible even in very low light and in combination with the soft periwinkle color lends a certain ephemeral aspect to the look. The display in the sun is stunning, lush and colorful.

Sweet!

  1. Gahhh - Stahhhpppp! You are killing me with the gorgeous polishes you are reviewing (or rather killing my bank account!). This polish is so beautiful. And looks eminently wearable. I was looking at my blues and realized the vast majority are more in the aqua / turquoise range of the blue profile. I go weak at the knees - I know I do - and I am trying to resist that shade and get more periwinkle blues. Add on all those pretty sparkles and I am IN!

    1. From reviews I've seen, this one seems to be the fan favorite from the collection. The prismatic display in the sun is gorgeous, much more so than my photos show.
