Chaos & Crocodiles Narwhals Eat Macarons Too

Narwhals Eat Macarons Too was released last month by indie polish maker Chaos & Crocodiles (C&C) as one of three June 2016 limited edition custom polishes created by Sarey exclusively for members of the Hella Holo Customs (HHC) Facebook group. It is officially described as a creamy light aqua holo, and I agree. The color is an exquisite celeste blue, a milky cyanic shade with a gorgeous semi-translucent, vitreous aspect. If sea glass and fine porcelain had a baby, it would look like this polish. Abundant finely-milled holographic pigment veils the color with a net of delicate sparkle and creates a vestigial prismatic flare in direct sun.

Application was lovely. The consistency of Narwhals Eat Macarons Too is fluid, light and creamy with a thin-to-medium viscosity and a smooth, even, self-leveling glide over the nail. Excellent formula, especially for a pastel, and even though it's a fast dryer it still gives you plenty of time to finesse the application. Pigmentation is excellent, almost a one coater, but a bit of translucence to the first coat requires a second for most complete opacity and best rendering of the holographic effects. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Narwhals Eat Macarons Too dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of Narwhals Eat Macarons Too over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

How pretty is that, eh? Flippin' exquisite! It's the color that a clear sky takes on low to the horizon, and of larimar, a volcanic blue gemstone found only the Dominican Republic. It also has a certain glacial quality that reminds me of my nail polish bff Marisa from Montana, who loves icy blue shades with a bit of sparkle like this one.

This gorgeous dimensional pool blue is simply lovely on the nail, with an especially clean, graceful, serene sense to it. Gazing at it, I imagine a tropical vacation scene in a place where time is weightless and slow, the water is cool and bright and the drinks come in tall frosty glasses garnished with fresh fruit and little paper umbrellas.

love,
Liz

  1. Oh no, I opened up this post and was like WHY HAVE I NOT FIGURED OUT THIS HHC THING WHY?! Months and months ago I tried to join after seeing your CrowsToes Mint-ally Unstable post, but the invitation never arrived, but the admin had sent it and said to keep checking, but I gave up and now there's a NARWHAL polish, what gives?? Haha. I'm interested in narwhals certainly, but it's actually Kellen who is preoccupied with them, more specifically with the idea that there should be narwhals in Norway, so that when I was in Norway all he could ask was HAVE YOU FOUND A NARWHAL IN NORWAY? (I didn't, obviously, but the enthusiasm for the concept remains.)
I'll have to add HHC to my to-do list again. This celestial polish is gorgeous- and as you say, just like larimar! Someday I'll make jewelery again; when I used to bead frequently, larimar was a rare find and special favorite of mine.
Someday has been rather elusive. This particular week, it's kept at bay by a kitchen midway through remodel (hooray! lots of time and energy but also positive and exciting), two sick puppies on the mend, and a burglarized garage awaiting police investigation, ugh :( but oh well, if it wasn't this out would be something else. It's always something! In any case, seeing this awe-inspiring polish worn, described, and characterized so beautifully (and associated with me, an honor!), I find my day looking up! Thank you for the inspiration and visions of paradise :) :) :) xoxo

    1. ..."the enthusiasm for the concept remains"... *lol* Love it!

Chaos & Crocodiles is ALL ABOUT narwhals, Marisa! When you order from Sarey, you're bound to get a little narwhal trinket of some kind with your polish, a little card or a button. I believe she has a narwhal necklace in her shop at the moment. The problem is actually catching the polish in stock. HHC made getting this one fairly easy and I absolutely recommend you persist in your quest to join! The amount of activity in that group makes your facebook feed feel a little frenzied, but the quality of the polishes is so worth it!

I strung beads and made jewelry too, for years. I actually still have a lot of it. I should send you something! I created a necklace and earring set for my cousin out of some beautiful (and expensive) larimar rounds with a mermaid theme, put it away in a "special" place and haven't seen it since. Hopefully I'll come across it one of these days.

Hooray for the kitchen remodel! Did you take "before" photos so you can show "before and after?" I never did any remodeling with my first house, but I was burglarized. What an awful feeling. Hope the pups are feeling better! Take care of your sweet self and thank you so much for the wonderful comment!

  2. Hahah, I had seen this polish offered but I told myself I have more than enough light aqua blue polishes, nope, don't need more... so I passed. Well, of course, now, seeing your gorgeous tips with it on, I'm wondering if that was a wise choice! It is a beauty!

    1. This one took me totally by surprise. It's just so incredibly lovely on the nail, much more than I anticipated and much more than just looking at it in the bottle would lead you to expect. The glass-like quality that it has is amazing! Even Fuzzy, who regularly wrinkles her nose and squints at blue polishes, loved it. *lol* You never know, Lara, it may just cross your path again yet!
