Emily de Molly Iridescent Skies

Like Four Weddings and a Manicure, Iridescent Skies was released last month by Australian indie polish maker Emily de Molly (EdM) as a July 2016 limited edition custom polish exclusively for members of the Hella Holo Customs (HHC) Facebook group. This is a pale silvery pink-lavender linear holographic polish packed with bodacious, show-stealing iridescent golden-green shimmers that shift to turquoise at certain angles to the light. Keenly protean in nature, the appearance of this polish alters with every crook of your finger, but generally the look is of a softly-reflective dusky silver washed by nacreous pink and lavender hues with a pale golden-green flash. In the sun there's an utterly gorgeous linear prismatic flare, slightly dispersed by but extra sparkly from the shimmers, with an inner band of delicate purple framing a glistening lick of semi-metallic pale green, edged by whisper-thin ribbons of prismatic hues before shading to a cloudy lavender-pink around the edges of the nail.

Application was a pleasure. The consistency of Iridescent Skies is fluid, smooth and dense with a medium viscosity and a plush, even, self-leveling glide over the nail that is easy to manipulate with EdM's sleekly compact flattened-style brush. Pigmentation is very good, delivering wearably opaque coverage in two coats. I added a third for the photos, but it didn't really change the look. Beware of those multitudinous shimmers during cleanup, they will go everywhere! Iridescent Skies dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat does not inhibit the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

Photos show three coats of Iridescent Skies over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The green flash is apparently too ephemeral to be caught by my camera, but it's quite prevalent in person. Rachel of Royal Milk Tea does an excellent job of showing it in her photos, here, and Tracy of Olivia Jade Nails has a beautiful sun shot of this polish where you can see a bit of the turquoise shimmer shift, here

There's a decadent Lalique vibe to Iridescent Skies that totally makes me think of Cinderella's glass slippers. I like to think that when the prince finds that lost slipper, it would be just as sleek and shimmery and stunning as this polish.

love,
Liz

  1. I've only gotten one or two of the HHC monthly polishes but I do love to see your swatches of them. This one is so pretty!
