A-England Her Rose Adagio

Her Rose Adagio was released in late fall 2013 by British boutique polish maker A-England as part of the Ballerina collection, a series of polishes inspired by the career of British Prima Ballerina Assoluta Dame Margot Fonteyn de Arias (1919-91), arguably the most famous ballerina of the mid-20th century and one of the greatest and most enduring ballerinas of all time. This particular polish is named for Fonteyn's acclaimed performance of The Rose Adagio as Princess Aurora in act one of Marius Petipa's Sleeping Beauty, exceptional for its technical difficulty and the exquisite detail and musical texture that Fonteyn concentrates into the contained space of her dancing.

Creator Adina poetically describes Her Rose Adagio as "faded roses in a silver prismatic base." The color is sort of a pinkish almond or very pale pinkish taupe along the lines of champagne pink, a delicate neutral blush with a finely-grained sandy aspect that is heavily silvered by superabundant ultrafine holographic pigment and reminds me of stone-washed silk. It is exquisitely holographic, generating a gorgeous dimensional flush of palest yellow and shell pink that travels up and down the nail with the light. In the sun, there is a shimmering, diaphanous prismatic display, a seamless, flame-shaped gradient of gentle rainbow hues bounded by delicate rosy beige around the edges of the nail.

Application was delicious. The consistency of Her Rose Adagio is fluid, full-bodied and creamy with a medium viscosity and a plush, buttery, self-leveling slip over the nail. Pigmentation is very good, delivering completely even opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy. Her Rose Adagio dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful glossy finish. Topcoat does not affect the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

Photos show two coats of Her Rose Adagio over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

It's almost a YNBB shade! The holographic effects are responsive but sophisticated and delicate, making it eminently wearable for work or professional occasions. On the nail, it's like a pair of fine kid gloves, with a pronounced sense of graceful decorum that is not unlike the beauty, elegance and fluent dignity of Fonteyn's dancing. A masterful polish composition and a loving tribute to one of the most iconic ballerinas ever!

  2. Even though this polish is relatively neutral, it has such a silky lushness to it. A stunning polish.
