Colors by Llarowe Dance with the Devil

Like Empty Heart and Darkest Days, Dance with the Devil was released at the beginning of the month by Colorado-based indie polish maker Colors by Llarowe as part of The Journey collection. Officially described as an "intense red glowing holo base with holo flake and copper red flame," the color here is a sumptuous deep crimson, a cool-toned red that is beautifully dimensionalized by holographic pigment to give it a radiant, lit-from-within appearance. Abundant holographic microflakes gleam as light hits them, like tiny prismatic coals. The color deepens dramatically at the edges of the nail, further enhancing the lit-from-within look.

Application was great! The consistency of Dance with the Devil is fluid, light and smooth with a thin-to-medium viscosity and an even, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is outstanding -- this is a solid one-coater, although I used two coats to maximize the holographic effects. Cleanup is straightforward with some pigment travel as you might expect from an intensely-pigmented red and a skosh of residual staining. Dance with the Devil dries naturally in very good time to a smooth finish with a slightly flat, velvety aspect that I rather like. Topcoat does not in any way interfere with the polish's considerable holographic properties, and seems to highly the effects of the holographic microflakes.

Photos show two coats of Dance with the Devil over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is definitely the one to wear when you want something fiery and dramatic on your tips! Lee Anne always does such a wonderful job with her reds, and this one is right up there with the best of them. Such a fabulous polish! If you're a fan of Prairie Home Companion, it's the Powdermilk Biscuits of reds.

love,

  1. Well. ... You know I love this! And want it! With all the reds I have, I don't think any are quite like this one. I like that it has a darker aspect than a bright summer red, so much dimension. I recently saw a post that Llarowe was taking a hiatus for awhile - will have to check that out!

    1. Lara, I am shocked that you like this... NOT! *lol* Wearing this red really made my eyes happy, so delicious. Vivid and bright but deep enough to wear all year round, with that beautiful dimensional look on the nail. Perfect addition to your collection.

I saw that too, about Llarowe. Lee Anne is transitioning to a new stage in her life, I think, one that will not involve running a polish business. If you're wanting any CbLs, I'd go ahead get them now.
