Application required a healthy dose of polish thinner at the outset, but I believe that may have been particular to my bottle as no other reviewer has mentioned it. Thinned a bit, it was divine, with a fluid, smooth consistency and a luxurious, full-bodied, self-leveling glide over the nail. The shimmers may show brushstrokes while the polish is wet but these mostly disappear as it dries. Pigmentation is very good, with evenly opaque coverage achieved in two coats. Cleanup is straightforward -- the shimmers take a little extra care to remove cleanly from the nail. Purple Rain dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, shiny finish. Topcoat does not interfere in any way with the holographic properties.
Photos show two coats of Purple Rain over basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. My pics skew a little blue -- it's more purple in person.

Loaded with holographic pigment and shimmers, this polish is a powerhouse of visual effects and if you like pink and purple together, it's the perfect polish for you! It was inspired by the Purple Rain cocktail, which I'd never heard of before (no surprise there) and I was keen to taste one. There seems to be a variety of gin and vodka-based recipes floating around out there. Here's the one I used:
1 oz blue curaçoaCombine all ingredients except lime in a drink shaker. Shake well until mixed. Serve over ice, with a wedge of fresh lime squeezed into it. Strong and sweet, easy to drink! *lol* The pineapple gives it a kind of tropical vibe -- it reminds me of drinking Yellow Birds in the Bahamas.
1 1/2 oz vodka (from the freezer)
1 oz grenadine
1 oz cranberry juice
1 oz pineapple juice
fresh limes or key limes
One Purple Rain, coming up! |
love,
Liz
