Different Dimension Alexandria

Like Olivia, Alexandria was released in December by Indiana-based indie polish maker Different Dimension as part of the Winter 2017 collection. This polish is named for Missi's step-daughter and is described as "a medium kelly green linear holographic polish with added glowing pink ‘unicorn’ type color-shifting shimmers and a scattering of holographic microglitters."

To my eye, the color is a yellow-green shade, medium-toned with a skosh of grey to it in ambient light, giving it slightly muted, mellow quality that similar to artichoke but with perhaps a little more oomph. Holographic pigment gives it a delicately-grained visual texture and a dimensional appearance on the nail that is dotted with twinkling prismatic sparks from the holographic microglitters, and luminous pink color-shifting microflake shimmers create a glistening orangey-pink swath along the axis of light. In bright direct light, the color brightens to more of an asparagus look, with a sparkling linear prismatic flare predominated by azure, spring green and gold that frames a shimmering lick of orangey-pink.

Application was great! The consistency of Alexandria is fluid, dense and smooth with a medium viscosity and an even, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is very good, delivering full opacity and bottle color in two coats. Cleanup is straightforward. Alexandria dries naturally in very good time to a fairly shiny finish with a gentle, pebbly hint of texture, easily smoothed by topcoat, which does not interfere with the holographic properties in any way.

Photos show two coats of Alexandria over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. Because the skylight in my bathroom (where I usually take my pics) was covered over with snow, I took these outside on the back porch. Snowlit photos! My cuticles are kind of shriveled in the cold.

Because the light is so soft, these photos don't really show the dimensionality of the polish as it appears in an environment with a directional light source. But I like them anyway, and I love this polish. In less stark surroundings, the color is richer and less muddy, with lots of light play and a warm, mellow quality on the nail.

love,
Liz
