Emily de Molly Subtle Silence

Subtle Silence was released in March this year by Australian indie polish make Emily de Molly. Creator Hayley describes this as a dark dusty purple with a huge amount of gold to green shifting shimmer and silver ultra holo microglitter. The base color is a deep palatinate purple, but in combination with the predominantly olivine look of the color-shifting shimmers it transforms to a rich, mysterious purpled charcoal. Starred by bright, jewel-like prismatic sparks from the holographic microglitters and veiled by superabundant glistening olivine shimmers that come to the fore along the axis of light, this polish has a sumptuous, tapestried look on the nail that is simply stunning!

Application was fabulous. The consistency of Subtle Silence is remarkably fluid and smooth for as many components as it carries, with a medium viscosity and a plush, even, self-leveling slip over the nail. All of the components are perfectly behaved -- there is zero patching or clumping, very impressive. Pigmentation is excellent, nearly a one coater but you'll want two for the richest effect. Cleanup is a bit tasky with all of the microglitters and shimmers on the loose, I should have done this as I went along but I was so excited about how amazing the polish looked that I just didn't think about it. Subtle Silence dries naturally in very good time to a very slightly textured finish, easily smoothed by a single layer of topcoat.

Photos show two coats of Subtle Silence over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Photos just can't do justice to this polish, I'm afraid. In person, Subtle Silence is awash with utterly gorgeous twinkling light play, and the colors are much richer, with more purple and green than was captured by my camera. There's a certain ornate, Byzantine quality to this that evokes precious gem-encrusted, gilded artifacts from some ancient civilization. Marvelous!

love,
Liz

  1. What a beauty! All that holo glittery goodness, on a dark base! And I am awash in admiration at how pristine your cleanup is, especially with a polish like this one.

    1. This one is just magnificent -- there's so much more to it and it's a lot more cohesive and crafted than the photos show. It comes together so beautifully on the nail!

It also applies really nicely, which is probably how I managed to impress you with my cleanup -- there was actually very little to do, ha!
