KBShimmer Teal Another Tail

In this post I'll be sharing another polish from the fall collection just released by KBShimmer. This one is called Teal Another Tail, and here's what Christy has to say about it: "Teal Another Tail is dusty teal green polish with a strong pink almost duo-chrome shimmer. A color I imagine would be on a mermaid’s tail.  Micro holographic glitters ad a bit of shine.  This polish can be worn without top coat for an almost velvet look, or apply top coat to bring out the shimmer."

The first thing you notice about Teal Another Tail are the amazingly overt pink/violet shimmers. They grab your eye right out of the bottle and never let go. The teal green base of Teal Another Tail reminds me a little of Misa Dirty Sexy Money. It's a nicely-pigmented medium dusky blue green with a sense of verdigris to it, flattering and beautiful in its own right. With the addition of the pink shimmers, Teal Another Tail becomes a working counterpointed palette of complementary colors. It's extraordinary, truly, how graceful and unusual this polish is. The holographic microglitters add a cosmic touch to the mix, flashing their rainbow sparkles randomly from within the polish under direct light like tiny winking stars.

That it is also beautifully formulated just sweetens the pot that much more. The consistency is loamy and slightly granular due to the large size of the shimmers, but fluid and easily applied. I had two occasions where, thanks to my overgenerous brush load and stroking, there were small instances of shimmer stacking, making pencil point sized lumps in the polish on the nail surface. But Teal Another Tail is a VERY forgiving polish. I took my clean up brush, dipped it in acetone and lightly smoothed out these stacks, re-covering the thinned spots immediately with additional polish. It melded together and self leveled perfectly, completely mending my errors without any bubbling or patchiness. Miraculous! In the future, I will take care to discipline my enthusiasm just a tad and apply Teal Another Tail in thin to medium even coats.

Opacity can be achieved in two coats. As it was, with my stack mending, I ended up doing three coats over treatment and basecoat. I applied a topcoat of Seche Vite, which dried to a satiny finish with some texture coming through from Teal Another Tail. So I added an additional coat of Seche Vite and this dried to its typical glossy finish.

Photos show that I didn't do nearly as good a job on clean up as I'd thought. Hmm.

Love this! Surely a force for good in this world! This morning I had to wait forever at the pharmacy and for once I didn't care a bit because I had this awesome polish on my nails. I spent the time surreptitiously (yeah right) flexing my fingers under the florescents to see how best to maximize the pink shimmer and admiring it's pop against the cool blue green of the base. This is another of those polishes where I can't seem to separate the virtuosity of it's composition with how it feels to wear it. My eyes are too busy taking it in to let it settle in my mind.

In short, just a fabulous polish. Don't you think so?

love,
Aunt Liz
