Butter London Chancer

Déjà vu! (uh, FRENCH!)

Today's red sparkly polish is brought to you by Butter London. It's called Chancer, and yes, it is a dupe for China Glaze Ruby Pumps.

Like Ruby Pumps, Chancer is a deep well-pigmented rich crimson red jelly loaded with very fine red microglitters. It is slightly more pigmented than Ruby Pumps perhaps, or the color is a skosh deeper, one. As far as I can tell, the microglitters are quite similar if not identical in appearance but my eye tells me that Chancer may have slightly more of them, proportionately, than Ruby Pumps does.

I've seen some reviews of Chancer online where the formula was problematic -- syrupy, sticky and unwieldy. Some found the application experience so unpleasant that they never wanted to wear it again. Chancer, like Fiddlesticks and Fairy Cake, does dry rapidly enough to become a bit brush clumpy during application and benefits from tightening up the cap and giving it a quick shake every now and then.

Chancer, like Ruby Pumps, dries to a semi-matte finish with a slightly granular texture. It's a tad more topcoat thirsty than Ruby Pumps is. I applied a coat of Seche Vite over my final coat of Chancer and not long after noticed the texture of Chancer coming through the Seche, so I added a coat of Poshe and that seems to have done the trick.

Photos show two coats of Chancer over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite and another of Poshe. For all practical purposes these look very similar to my Ruby Pumps photos from yesterday's post, except that my nail surrounds are rather the flaky mess here. Before I went out to photograph Chancer I did a quick inspection of my cuticles including running a finger nail down the sides of each nail. *lol* Never do this before taking photos! My eye didn't pick up on all the flaky skin that was loosened up by this carelessness, but the macro SEES ALL. And now, so will you. My apologies.

Another beauty, Chancer. Sleek, festive, rich and glamorous. Just a lovely deep red glitter jelly. Now, exactly how similar is it to Ruby Pumps? I've swatched the two below on a swatch palette. Two coats of each plus a topcoat of Seche Vite followed by a topcoat of Poshe. I've included my thumb in the third picture, wearing my Chancer manicure. Can you tell which is which?

That's Ruby Pumps on the left, my thumb with Chancer manicure in the center, and Chancer on the right. My honest opinion is that on the nail, their differences are inconsequential compared to their similarities. Application-wise, there are differences of more consequence. Chancer's formula can be a little balky, whereas Ruby Pumps is more or less trouble free.

I love both of them and I'm glad I've got them both in my collection -- one to keep and one to gift if the opportunity ever comes up! Eleanor, can you think of someone who would appreciate a red sparkly polish? Like maybe... your mom?

love,
Aunt Liz
