CrowsToes Green Thumb of Doom over Essie Mojito Madness

You've already seen Green Thumb of Doom by indie polish maker CrowsToes once before on this blog. Remember what I said at the end of that post about how I was going to seek out new life and new civilizations other, better polish underwear to layer with it? Well today I have for you, once again, the beautiful shimmery goodness of Green Thumb of Doom -- this time layered over an underwear polish better suited to the task.

That polish would be Essie Mojito Madness. Mojito Madness was released last year as part of Essie's Summer 2012 collection and judging by how many ebay auctions it took before I finally won it, it continues to be a popular polish. Now I can see why! It's a gorgeous nicely-saturated medium-light fresh fern green, springtime grassy with just the slightest touch of blue to keep it cool. It's a crelly, a creme/jelly hybrid, and has a jelly's slightly translucent appearance which works well with the color, giving it a delicious almost juicy glow. At the same time, there is a soft creaminess to it that prevents it from being too sharp. It's just a lovely, beautifully rendered bright green.

And honestly I think it looks better on you, Eleanor, than it does on me. I love the color, but next to it my complexion seems a little bit sallow. Your beautiful golden skin is a more perfect companion to Mojito Madness. Still, it's the kind of color that makes my eyes happy. It is very close in color and character to Zoya Josie, but is a tad cooler toned.

Mojito Madness has a fluid but creamy and dense formula that made application a pleasure. I enjoyed using Essie's relatively small but flexible brush, it is very precise. Photos show two coats of Mojito Madness over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

CrowsToes Green Thumb of Doom is a spry grassy green shimmer polish. I've studied it in the bottle as well as on my nails and to my eye it has a pale milky teal-leaning blue base full of green-to-gold color-shifting shardy shimmers. As I mentioned in the previous post that featured Green Thumb of Doom, this polish is all about the shimmer. It is the principal agent of the overall color. The blueish base, which seems to deepen in tone at the edges of the nail, appears to hover over the shimmer in a sheer milky wash of palest blue green.

In my opinion, this is a polish that is best enjoyed in indirect lighting. Direct sun sparks a dramatic gold color shift in the shimmer, and while it's pretty and sparkly it overpowers the wonderful dimensional quality of the base/shimmer contrast and the gorgeous flecked foily finish that is visible in indirect light and shade.

Green Thumb of Doom applies beautifully. The consistency is soft and light and slightly viscous; it floats onto the nail. Photos show two coats of Green Thumb of Doom plus a topcoat of Poshe over the Mojito Madness manicure above.

Glowing green color-shifting shimmers swimming in a misty blue veil, Green Thumb of Doom seems right at home over Mojito Madness, don't you think? Perhaps the reason these two polishes work so well together is that they both ride the line between yellow green and blue green in their own particularly well-balanced ways, resulting in a combination at once complex and clean, fresh and tonic.

I know you love your yellow greens, Eleanor, but don't you think you could make room in that great big heart of yours for a shimmery blue-green look like this one? Sure, I knew you could. *wink*

love,
Aunt Liz
