Glam Polish Malice

Like Hostile, Malice was released by Australian indie polish maker Glam Polish as part of the limited edition Wicked Intent collection at the beginning of last month. This is another complex holographic polish with component additions of shimmers and microglitters. It has a blackened violet holo base along the lines of a Russian violet, which creator Rachel tempers with superabundant microflake shimmers in fuchsia and sparkling holographic turquoise microglitters. I loved Edina's description of this polish in her review of the Wicked Intent collection on lakkomlakkom:
Malice is one of those evil Disney queen shades, but it could be just as easily inspired by a unicorn that joined the dark side.
The brilliant aquatic turquoise holo microglitters twinkling amongst copious gleaming fuchsia microflakes in the squid-inkiness of the blackened violet conjured up the idea of a mermaid's nightmare in my head -- a soupçon of horror in this remoulade of wickedness. I probably wouldn't be imagining such stuff if we had clear skies, as from what I understand this polish has fully prismatic holographic effects in direct sun, but we are still in Joaquin's shadow here in central NC at the moment so no full-blown prismatics today. But Malice is still a thing of beauty and not nearly as ominous as I've made it out to be.

Application was a delight. The consistency of Malice is fluid, light and biddable with an effortless slip over the nail and very good self-leveling qualities. It is ever-so-slightly thinner than Hostile, and will flood a cuticle or sidewall if given the chance, but that is avoidable thanks to how easy the polish is to work with. Pigmentation is excellent. With a generous and careful hand, it could definitely be a one-coater. I used two thinner coats for this manicure to disaccommodate (yes I did just make that up) my nail ridges, which were still visible after one coat. Cleanup was fairly straightforward with just a little bit of pigment travel and residual staining but nothing too problematic. Malice dries naturally in very good time to a gritty finish similar to Hostile, but it smoothed out quite well with a liberal layer of topcoat.

Photos show two coats of Malice over Pretty Serious Rock On treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I so love the deep violet base color of this polish -- it is has an unwavering, graceful athleticism to it that I find profoundly elegant. It just sends me! If it were a track and field athlete, it would be distance runner for sure.

What my photos do not show, nor will any still image I think, is how very dynamic and colorful the visual texture of this polish is. Between the holo pigment and the components, there's all kinds of sparkling, gleaming, glowing light play going on. It's gorgeous! And I think that I can safely vouch for linear effects in this holo. Even with no direct light, vestiges of delineated prismatic color are visible and I imagine that both the colors and sparkle would be compounded to magnificent effect by the clouds of holographic turquoise microglitters. Gives me the all-overs just thinking about it!

I didn't expect this to be so very awesome, but it's all that and the biggest bag of chips ever! I can hardly wait for the next (and last) Wicked Intent polish tomorrow!

love,
Liz

  2. The first sentence of your second paragraph deserves some kind of award for greatness. :)

I can see why you're so taken with this. Give me a deep violet and add turquoise, and I'm drooling. I'm not sure if being in love with a nail polish deems us mentally unstable or if it just reveals another layer of complicated consciousness. Maybe both.

    1. Melissa, you are so kind! Sometimes, well more than sometimes... OFTEN I just can't help myself.

Perhaps both. Or perhaps being love with a nail polish is just one of a bazillion subroutines of loving beauty generally. Love of beauty is one of the most worthy and rewarding pursuits there is! As the poet said, a thing of beauty is a joy forever, and joy is one of THE goals. It's intrinsic, fundamental, self-propagating, cumulative and just about the best thing evah, evah, evah!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)
