Pahlish Dissolving Like the Setting Sun

Dissolving Like the Setting Sun was released by Arkansas-based indie polish maker Pahlish as part of The Hidden Door collection last month. This is another complex linear holographic polish, this time in what creator Shannon calls a "blackened sienna." It is indeed a deep sienna, an earthy reddish brown color with hints of chestnut, swimming with superabundant bright ruby-colored metallic flake shimmers. From within the base the shimmers gleam in hues of red, rust and burnt orange, glistening as the light hits them and giving the polish a coppery red flash. The finely-milled holographic pigment produces a bright prismatic flare in direct sun, a flame-shaped display sparkling with all the rainbow colors that floats over a central semi-metallic blaze of auburn. In indirect light, the holo pigment adds a dusty blanket of sparkle to the polish, a beautiful complement to the gleaming shimmers.

Application was a treat -- I loved watching those bright red shimmers go on! The consistency of Dissolving Like the Setting Sun is quite similar to the other polishes from this collection that I've tried: fluid, smooth and dense with a lush velvety glide over the nail and excellent self-leveling properties. Pigmentation is excellent with wearable coverage in one coat and completely even opacity in two. Cleanup is easy and straightforward, with a little recalcitrance on the part of the shimmers but very little pigment travel or trace staining. Dissolving Like the Setting Sun dries naturally in good time to a smooth, slightly flat finish that wants a nice topcoat to look its best.

Photos show two coats of Dissolving Like the Setting Sun over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

A nice fiery red-brown, lovely for fall and deep and rich enough for winter as well!

love,

  1. That is a very handsome polish. The flashing colors that skirt around the brown range elevate it and make it more interesting, to me. Liz, I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am that you and other bloggers share your polishes with us. I love seeing all the ranges and finishes of nail polish, even if I have no desire to obtain some. Thank the nail gods for these perfect bottles of liquid gems!

    1. Lara! Your passion is contagious! I know when I first started to seriously explore nail polish I was thrilled to find blogs full of glorious photos describing experiences and giving opinions, so interesting and helpful. So it makes me very happy to know that my blog is gratifying for you, very happy indeed! It was always my intention to give back to the online polish community with this blog and to be something of a resource for those who share this interest. Nail polish is part of the long, venerable human tradition of personal adornment, and I love being a part of that. You are a part of that too, and I feel lucky that you found my blog and enjoy it. Thank you for hitching a ride with me!
