Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Snowbunny Siren

Snowbunny Siren was released towards the end of last month by Georgia-based indie polish maker Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer (BEGL) as part of creator Julie's ongoing Siren series of polishes. These are special limited edition stand-alone polishes that are only released once -- once they're gone, they're gone forever.

Described as a "periwinkle linear holographic with larger platinum flakies and gold glass flecks," this polish is exquisite. Especially when compared to similarly-toned azure hues, the color is indeed a perfect periwinkle, a silvery, pellucid rendition of what is usually a simple lavender blue tint of white. It has a very clean, fresh quality with a gentle radiance and a stunning silvery sheen. A veritable snowshower of gleaming platinum flakes floats within, accompanied by dewy golden glass flecks, which combine with the abundance of fine holographic pigment to render a glistening deliquescent countenance. In direct sun, there's a delicate linear prismatic display of pinpoint sparks in all of the rainbow colors, but the prismatic properties are for the most part incidental to the breathtaking loveliness of this polish, which in my opinion is at its prettiest in indirect ambient light.

Application was great! The consistency of Snowbunny Siren is fluid, smooth and slightly fluffy with the medium-to-thicker viscosity common to BEGL creations and a lush, creamy flow over the nail. I added a bit of polish thinner to my bottle to ensure a viscosity most commensurate with my application skills and personal preferences. The platinum flakes go on like a dream and lie perfectly flat to the nail without any tumbling, stickups or protrusions over the free edge. Self-leveling properties are excellent, as is pigmentation, especially for a pale shade with a bit of built-in translucence. Two coats deliver completely even, opaque coverage and full bottle color. Cleanup is surprisingly easy. Sure, the platinum flakes can be a bit sticky, but the polish is so easy to work with that a relatively clean manicure is entirely within the realm of possibility -- even for me! Snowbunny Siren dries naturally in very good time to a silky smooth, shiny finish with only the very slightest discernible texture from the flakies.

Photos show two coats of Snowbunny Siren over Pretty Serious Rock On treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The delicate reflectivity of the platinum flakies and the dynamics of the light play in this delightful polish are all but impossible to capture in a still image. Suffice to say, it is truly far more beautiful in person than the photos show. The color is luminous and serene, and the glossy finish fairly trembles with a sleek liquid-like shimmer interspersed by gleaming silvery flashes as light travels over the platinum flakes. Heady stuff!

This is by far the loveliest lacquer I've had on my nails so far this year, which I realize is still young. But when you can look at a manicure all day and be overwhelmed with admiration and thrilled to the point of exhilaration every time, that is an extraordinary nail polish! Unfortunately, Snowbunny Siren was a short pour -- only 36 bottles. It has sold out and there's no way to know whether Julie would even be able to replicate this composition in the future. But we all know how naturally polish enthusiasm takes wing on the updrafts of optimism.... let's hope that she might.

love,
Liz

  1. IT'S GONE?!?!! :*{ How can the most perfect Snowbunny polish- the most perfect cold color of shadow on snow in the dim light between dusk and dawn- just be gone?? It is too cruel. I find it so often the case, lovely Liz, that your posts inspire the most intensely ravenous polish lemmings. ♡

    1. Never fear, my dear! I've set this one aside for you. It's too much of a Marisa sort of polish for you not to have it!
