Il Était Un Vernis Under the Pink

Under the Pink was released by French indie polish maker Il Était Un Vernis as part of the Sweet Bliss collection in June 2015. This is a medium-toned complex hot magenta pink polish packed with ultrafine holographic particles as well as superabundant metallic fuchsia shimmers. The combination of the holo and shimmer effects gives the polish a unique electricity on the nail. The base displays aspects of fuchsia, deep pink and shocking pink, especially in direct sun where there's a brilliant scintillating fuchsia sparkle from the shimmers as well as a warmer prismatic bloom from the holo pigment that is accompanied by scattered blue sparks. In bright indirect light, there's a finely-grained quality to the finish, but in low light and shade, Under the Pink develops a sleek, semi-metallic quality with an unearthly violet glow. Highly decorative and fiercely vibrant, it is not without a certain rosy femininity, a mellifluous, floral aspect that keeps its intensity from being too shrill. 

Application was wonderful. The consistency of Under the Pink is fluid and smooth with a medium viscosity and a creamy flow over the nail. Self-leveling properties are excellent, as is pigmentation. With a generously loaded brush and the proper mojo, this could be a one coater -- but the holographic effects are best featured at two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward with only a tiny bit of pigment travel and no residual staining to speak of. Under the Pink dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish. Topcoat does not appear to inhibit the holographic properties of the polish in any way.

This most assertive, attention grabbing, impactful pink is given a dreamy sensuousness by its violet glow and shimmering prismatic bloom. Beautifully constructed and formulated, I'd say this is a must have polish for pink lovers. It celebrates the anti-establishment semiotics of the shade while maintaining a strong link to its lush femininity. Very nice!
