Picture Polish 2001

2001 was released in September this year by Australian boutique polish maker Picture Polish (PP) as one of six new additions to their Collaboration line. It was designed with Kate from The Nailista Shop as a tribute to Stanley Kubrick's 1968 epic science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The color is a creamy, medium-toned off-grey with gentle blue overtones that's a good match for cool grey. It has PP's signature scattered holographic flecks, visible as stippling to the base color that reads as pale gold. Direct sun generates a dainty prismatic flush that travels up and down the nail with the light.

Application was lovely. The consistency of 2001 is fluid, light and creamy with a medium viscosity and an even, fluent, self-leveling glide over the nail, very easy to control and a pleasure to finesse with PP's flattened-style brush. Pigmentation is very good, delivering completely even opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy. 2001 dries naturally in very good time to a beautiful smooth, shiny finish.

Photos show two coats of 2001 over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

You can see how blue 2001 is compared to PP's range of black and grey lacquers in Sveta Sanders excellent comparison post, here

A comparison can be made between 2001 and ILNP's Industrial Park, but aside from the general color they are actually quite different. While they are both lovely, beautifully-composed polishes, Industrial Park is darker and more dramatic, while the gentler color and more subtle effects of the scattered holographic flakes in 2001 give it a softer, cozier feel.
