KBShimmer Spruce Things Up

Like Ink Again and A Walk in the Park-a, Spruce Things Up was released on the first of this month by Indiana-based indie polish maker KBShimmer as part of the Winter 2016 collection. It has a medium-toned translucent green jelly base packed with tiny holographic silver microglitters, a nicely-balanced, foresty shade that deepens to medium-dark with layering but retains the lively, vibrant character that you want in a Christmas green. The sparkle is exquisite: a beautiful, twinkling blanket of pinpoint sparks in green, silver and gold with additional prismatic colors in direct light.

Application was a pleasure. The consistency of Spruce Things Up is fluid, light and remarkably smooth for a glitter-laden polish, with a medium viscosity and a fluent self-leveling slip over the nail that is easy to control. Pigmentation is sheer. Wearably opaque coverage can be had in two medium coats on shorter nails, but longer nails will require three to camouflage visible nail line and achieve full bottle color at the tips. Be sure to wrap them carefully to avoid any sheerness there! I actually think this polish is at its best on shorter nails; the color seems denser, crisper, better defined. Cleanup was much less problematic than I expected with little pigment travel, almost no trace staining and minimal loose microglitters. Spruce Things Up dries naturally in very good time to a gently textured finish, easily smoothed with a single layer of topcoat.

Photos show three coats of Spruce Things Up over KBShimmer Love You Strong Time treatment and KBShimmer Fillin' Groovy basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

The built-in translucence of the formula here allows light to fire up those tiny microglitters at varying depths, adding a wonderful dimensional aspect to the sparkle that reminds me of old Hollywood glamor. I can see myself wrapping Christmas presents with this polish on my nails. A real finger-twirler -- I can't help but smile every time I look at it!

love,
Liz
