Nine Zero Lucifer's Cage
Lucifer's Cage was released at the end of August this year by Michigan-based indie polish maker Nine Zero Lacquer as part of the Men of Letters collection. The color is a medium-toned silvery steel blue with gentle violet overtones and aspects of cornflower. It has a lustrous, semi-metallic finish that is liberally dusted with finely-milled holographic pigment, tiny motes that read as pale gold, and displays a dimensional dusky quality in ambient light. In the sun, there's a compact linear display, a tight arc of mixed prismatic sparks surrounding a bright cornflower blue center and shading to slate at the edges of the nail.
Application was lovely. The consistency of Lucifer's Cage is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and a velvety, self-leveling glide over the nail that has a tiny bit of pull to it. Pigmentation is very good, delivering evenly opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy. Lucifer's Cage dries naturally in very good time to a smooth, satiny finish that loves a good topcoat for gloss. Topcoat does not interfere with the holographic effects in any way that I could tell.
Photos show two coats of Lucifer's Cage over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This is a beautiful blue, and the holographically-generated duskiness adds a touch of solemnity to the cornflower bonhomie that syncs well with a fall/winter vibe. It is sleek and graceful on the nail, a lighter blue than is typical for this time of year but more purposeful than happy-go-lucky... until you get it in the sun, anyway, where it brightens and blooms with holographic goodness. Nice!
love,
Liz
