Hare Polish Ancient Affairs over Barielle U-Concrete-Me

U-Concrete-Me by Barielle has been saddled with a perfectly ridiculous name, which annoys the heck out of me because it's a perfectly fabulous medium-dark battleship grey creme and deserves a cool ass name like Oscillation Overthruster. *wink*

This polish provided me with the best Barielle application experience I have had yet. It was liquid but easily controlled, well-pigmented, self-leveling and dried to a glossy shine. Opacity was achieved in two medium coats with very little clean up needed. A steady hand would need no clean up.

Photos show two coats of Barielle U-Concrete-Me *snort* over my basecoat duo of Seche Rebuild and Butter London Nail Foundation. No topcoat to show off the shiny, even finish.

Nice, eh? Just a perfect medium dark grey creme.

Indie polish maker Hare released Ancient Affairs in Fall 2012 as one half of a two-polish collection called Antiquities. Ancient Affairs was the first Hare Polish I ever purchased and I've been buying them as often as I can ever since. Hare Polish has my HEART!

I bought this polish at my favorite nail polish e-tailer Llarowe and subsequently posted a small review on the Ancient Affairs page. Eleanor! Imagine how delighted I was when I revisited that page and saw another review posted by someone who had purchased Ancient Affairs because of what I wrote!

Ancient Affairs is an elegant medium-dark grey jelly polish swimming with bright blue shimmer and turquoise microglitters. The delicately translucent grey base allows the shimmer and microglitters to fire up in almost any light. The shimmer gives the whole polish a subtle blue glow, while the microglitters sparkle on the axis of light. It has a magical faerie-like look on the nail and a dynamic interaction with light. It's also very more-ish to the eye, once you look you want to see MORE. Whenever I wear this polish I constantly have my hands in my face!

Ancient Affairs applied beautifully. It dried quickly to a slightly grainy textured satiny finish. I have worn it by itself over basecoat and now over a grey creme (Barielle U-Concrete-Me) and love it both ways. The grey is slightly less ethereal, slightly more substantial when it's layered but that is the only difference.

Photos show two easy coats of Ancient Affairs plus Seche Vite topcoat over the Barielle U-Concrete-Me manicure above.

I love Ancient Affairs. It is one of my most treasured polishes. It's the only polish I have that I've considered buying a back up for. Because who knows how long Nikole will keep making it?

How about you, Eleanor? What do you use on a regular basis that you would never want to run out of? Inquiring minds want to know!

love,
Aunt Liz
