a england Guinevere

Guinevere was released by a england as part of Adina's epic Mythicals collection in January 2011. Described by Adina as an "elegant antique pale mauve," I'd call this beautiful polish a medium-light greyed lilac creme. It is indeed an elegant shade, a delicate interplay of grey, blue and pink with a soft graceful presence. From comparisons I've seen online, OPI Done Out in Deco and Essie Bangle Jangle are cousins, although Guinevere is a bit darker in tone than either.

Application, as with all of a england's polishes that I've experienced, was blissful. The formula for Guinevere is smooth fluid creamy perfection. There is no chalkiness or patchiness as is often found in whitened colors. A bit of sheerness requires two coats for complete opacity. Guinevere dries naturally in good time to a glossy finish.

Photos show two coats of Guinevere over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of HK Girl.

To me, this is a quintessential atmospheric shade for early spring. While a perfect complement to the rolling clouds of stormy spring skies, it is also paradoxically tender and delicate. It's a very grown up and sophisticated take on the pale lilacs we often see in polishes released for this time of year, with its deeper tone bringing just a bit of an edge to it. On the nail it has a exquisite sort of wistful feel to it, equal parts nostalgia, longing and hope. It's very beautiful.

I like it. I like it very much.

love,
Liz
