OPI Miami Beet

Miami Beet was released by OPI as part of its South Beach collection for spring/summer 2009. It's a dark saturated shade of Tyrian purple, a chameleon shade that can appear as anything from a rich raspberry to a deep red-violet to a burgundy to a beetroot purple. Full-bodied, intense and bright despite being a dark color, this is an edgy modern alternative to red and eminently wearable all year round.

Application was lovely. Miami Beet has a fantastic formula -- fluid, creamy and dense -- and slips onto the nail like a second skin. It seems made for the OPI pro-wide brush and finesses a cuticle arch like nobody's business. Pigmentation is excellent with opaque even coverage in one coat, but apply two for full depth of color. Miami Beet dries naturally in average time to a shiny finish that looks its best under a thick glossy topcoat.

Photos show two coats of Miami Beet over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. My camera backed away shaking its head from the intensity of this gorgeous color and the most accurate version I could coax out of it is the pinkish red you see below. Although not entirely inaccurate, it's not the truest portrayal I could hope for. Also, pleased accept my apologies for the scruffiness of my nail environs. They are in deep need of a rendezvous with salt scrub or a microfiber cloth or both.

If you'd like to see a more true-to-nature photographic depiction of this color, I enthusiastically direct you to photos I found of it on The Nail Trail, here. She captures the purple soul of this polish perfectly in her pics, whereas mine seem to have missed it altogether.

love,
Liz
