Pretty Serious Galaxy Invader

Greetings, earthlings! I have another sweet piece of nail polish eye candy from Aussie indie polish maker Pretty Serious Cosmetics for you today. A few weeks ago I showed you Phantom Planet, part of Pretty Serious' They Came From Beyond Space collection from 2012. When I first discovered Pretty Serious about a year ago, I had no experience with multichromes and in my ignorance wasn't so keen on the color shifting lacquers that make up this remarkable little collection. My how things have changed! Anyway, today's polish is from that same troika of multichromatic goodness and it's called Galaxy Invader.

Galaxy Invader has a murky greyish tinted transparent base loaded with highly reflective foily platelet shimmers and dynamic multichromatic pigments that travel across the aqua/cerulean/violet/purple spectrum depending upon how the light hits them. Aqua makes the most prominent appearance, although you can see two or more colors on the nail at once at any given time. The combination of the bright aqua with the deeper violets of the palette give this polish an eerie futuristic vibe that is impossible to ignore. Cue your weird warbling sci fi soundtrack!

Application was great. The consistency of Galaxy Invader is fluid, light and slightly loamy or fluffy. It is very well behaved, applies easily and self-levels well. Pigmentation is buildable, which is the fun part 'cause you get to watch the multichrome come alive. This polish starts out with a very sheer first coat but quickly gains coverage momentum after the second coat with optimum color and opacity at three coats. Cleanup is something you'll want to avoid having to do if you can (I could not) due to the shimmer explosion that occurs when this polish comes into contact with acetone, and those little shimmers cling tenaciously to the skin. Galaxy Invader dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show three coats of Galaxy Invader over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of HK Girl to pop the colors as much as possible.

Never a dull moment with this one, either! Here, it's the reddish purple in Galaxy Invader's palette (which I didn't do as good a job capturing as I wish I had) that catches me off guard the most. It's fierce! And of course it goes without saying that I adore the speckled flecky foily finish provided by those awesome little platelet shimmers, if that is indeed what they are. They could be glitters. Or even glass flecks. Only Kaz and her crew of polish fairies at Pretty Serious know for sure!

love,
Liz
