Elevation Polish Lagoon Nebula

Lagoon Nebula was released by Minnesota-based indie polish maker Elevation Polish as part of the Highest Elevation... Space collection in March this year. This is a low density holographic creme bearing blue/red violet color-shifting shimmers. The base color is a creamy medium-toned blue-green or teal, well-balanced between blue and green, with a particularly dense, weighty quality to it that is similar to dark cyan. It's a rich, moody, ornate shade dusted by color-shifting microflake shimmers that are elusive at a casual glance but reflect as a coppery pink upon close inspection, where they come to the fore at oblique angles especially. A modicum of finely-milled holographic pigment brightens and adds a delicate, dimensional sparkle with occasional pinpoint prismatic sparks in direct light.

Application was quite agreeable. The consistency of Lagoon Nebula is fluid, creamy and dense with a thicker viscosity that I thinned to medium at the outset. Once thinned, it had a smooth, plush glide over the nail that went on best for me in medium coats from a well-loaded brush. Pigmentation is excellent. With the proper mojo, it could easily be a one-coater. I used two medium coats for evenly opaque coverage except on my ridgiest nails (the ring finger nails on both hands), where I could still detect a slight planing effect after two and so added a third to those nails. Cleanup is fairly straightforward, with a bit of pigment travel and light residual staining. Lagoon Nebula dries naturally in very good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Photos show two to three coats of Lagoon Nebula over Pretty Serious Rock On treatment and Pretty Serious All Your Base basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

This polish is named for a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius, an emission nebula formed of ionized gases and dust that emits light of various colors. Spanning 100 light years across, it is classified as an H II region, an area where star formation is taking place, and is one of only two star-forming nebulae faintly visible to the naked eye from mid-northern latitudes.

The Lagoon Nebula is named for the dark band of dust running left of center in the picture. A bright knot of gas and dust in the center is known as the Hourglass Nebula. This picture is a digitally sharpened composite of exposures taken in specific colors of light emitted by sulfur (red), hydrogen (green), and oxygen (blue). 1. This polish looks fantastic on you. I love this color but not sure it would look as good on me. Not that I worry too much about that - I am currently wearing a bright sunshine yellow. Not the most flattering on me, but I do love yellow!

    1. Thank you, Lara! The photos turned out quite well, I think the color must be particularly photogenic because I honestly wasn't feeling this one so much in person.

Ooh, speaking of yellow, I just couldn't resist getting Essie's shimmery yolky yellow Aim to Misbehave not too long ago. I'm waiting for a day when I feel particularly bold and confident to do a post on it.

    2. Hahahah, didn't Essie stir it up picking such an unusual color for their commemorative polish?! I'll be picking it up also. The yellows I have are all either various pastels or lemon yellows - but I'm willing to try this one. However, I don't see it being called flattering except on a select few skin tones!

    3. I know that yellow will be appalling with my pinkage, but I'm just not worried about it for some reason! La-dee-da!
