Contrary Polish Breeze and Dewy

Breeze was released at the beginning of March this year by Missouri-based indie polish maker Contrary Polish as part of the Spring It On collection. I loved this gorgeous series of five cool-toned muted-color cremes on sight when it came out and eventually ordered the whole kit and caboodle including Dewy, the shimmery holo topper that Carrie created to accompany the cremes.

Officially described as a "greyed periwinkle," Breeze is a creamy medium-light blue-grey that on me looks very similar to the way Crayola's shadow blue appears on my monitor, but lighter and maybe a hair brighter. It's a stormy cloud color that somehow manages to be both resonant and changeable, appearing more blue in some circumstances and more grey in others. On the nail it is graceful and sophisticated, with a cool elegance that makes it feel like it will be wearable year round. I think it will be a beautiful lighter shade for winter, especially.

Application was lovely. The consistency of Breeze is fluid, creamy and dense with a medium viscosity and a buttery, self-leveling glide over the nail, just a wonderful creme formula that is easy to manipulate with Contrary's flattened flexible brush. Pigmentation is very good, delivering evenly opaque coverage in two coats. Cleanup is easy and straightforward. Breeze dries naturally in good time to a smooth shiny finish.

Dewy is the topper of the Spring It On collection. Such a sweet name, and so fitting! It has iridescent pink and holographic shimmers suspended in a clear base, and is possibly the most delicate and feminine holographic topper I've ever seen. The effect is subtle and very very pretty. I added two ethereal coats of Dewy to the Breeze manicure, plus a layer of Seche Vite to bring out the shimmers, for the photos below.

In the sun, Dewy generates a fine scattered display of prismatic sparks. The mix of particulate and microflake style shimmers has a naturally random, organic quality that complements the soft colors of the collection beautifully. Very nice!
