Deborah Lippmann Good Girl Gone Bad

Good Girl Gone Bad is described by the marketing folks at Deborah Lippmann as a "bold cabernet shimmer." I haven't had any good cabernet lately so that description doesn't resound with me as much as it might have if I had. Besides, I don't think Good Girl Gone Bad is a wine colored polish. It has less red and more blue in it than I think of for wine/burgundy/cabernet/etc. To me, it's a deep rich vivid plum with very fine shimmery microglitters that glow magenta through the plummy base. The microglitters do a fine job of lighting up the plum when the light hits them, but for me the base color is the star of this show. This is the truest plum I've got in my collection, and it's gorgeous. You'll see.

This is a very nicely formulated polish. It applies easily and smoothly and self-levels beautifully. Pigmentation is awesome, and you could easily get opaque coverage with one thick coat. I used one thin and one medium coat and had almost no clean up. With my shaky hands, that's saying something. Good Girl Gone Bad dries in good time to a matte-like slightly textured finish and wants a nice thick topcoat to boost the color, bring out the sparkle of the shimmery microglitters and otherwise show its best self.

Photos show two coats of Good Girl Gone Bad over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Isn't that a splendid color? It really pops outdoors. Just a gorgeous plummy purple. On the nail it has a deft, high-spirited, clear-eyed feel to it. It's dark but it isn't muted, so it has a little healthy glow to it without being loud. The microglitters are the twinkle in its eye.

I really love fruity purples but you have to catch them before they lean too floral, if that makes any sense. Too much flower power and they can get screechy or heavy. Good Girl Gone Bad is Goldilocks just right. I'd love to have a glitter mix based around this color!

Aunt Liz
