This is one of my treasured polishes. It was the very first Deborah Lippmann polish in my collection (scored at auction on ebay as all of my high end lacquers are) and I have some good emotional associations with it, so I am biased. It's not the perfect polish for everyone but it is for me.
Application is where Ray of Light falls down with folks. It has a very thick, almost gel-like constistency that can be sticky and tedious to apply. I add thinner to mine to get it down to a nice freely flowing state and it still retains enough viscosity to stay where you put it and not pool or run. Being a jelly, it is sheer and a little streaky with the first coat but the coverage and color are buildable and this polish self-levels like nobody's business. Ray of Light dries naturally in longer than average time (as jellies are wont to do) to a glossy finish, and removes easily without staining.
Photos show three coats of Ray of Light over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite. Once again my rapscallion nail environs displease me mightily. We're going to have to have a talk.

HEART! I love driving when I'm wearing this because I can put my hands up on the top of the steering wheel and the light will hit just right and bring out all the rainbow colors in the shardy flakes. That said and photos aside, this is mostly a glossy dark purpley blue polish. That is, the flake glitters probably aren't going to register right off the bat to the average bear. Stealth flakies.
Even when the environment is not the most conducive to flakie spotting, at least I know that they are there. A little thrill of joy accompanies that knowledge, which makes wearing Ray of Light extremely worthwhile. At least, for me.
love,
Aunt Liz
This looks like such a gorgeous polish! I love the flakies, and the base color is gorgeous too :)
