Candeo Colors Anochi Kai
Anochi Kai from indie polish maker Candeo Colors is one of eight polishes in their Aruba collection. The name Anochi Kai means "nightfall" in Papiamento, a creole language of African and Portuguese heritage (among others) that is the most widely spoken natural language on the Caribbean ABC Islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, formerly of the Netherlands Antilles.

This is a sheer medium royal purple jelly with beautiful pink glass fleck shimmer. Because it is so sheer, Anochi Kai is best layered over a polish of similar base color. I don't have proper polish underwear for this -- yet! I'm working on it. In the meantime, I thought I'd show it to you on its own.
In my opinion polish thinner is a must have for frustration-free application of Anochi Kai and similar jelly-based shimmer polishes. The jelly base is preternaturally thick and sticky and adding thinner regularly to the bottle while working with it greatly improves the application experience. The more thinner added the easier it is to apply thin coats of this polish, which is what you need because the thinner the coats the more of them you can do. With a sheer polish like this one coverage is buildable to your taste and preferences, but it does take a few coats. I used four for this manicure and think it could have used one more.
Anochi Kai dries in good time to a semi-matte finish and wants a good topcoat to boost the base color and the sparkle from the glass flecks and otherwise look its best.
This may seem like a lot of trouble to go to for one nail polish and maybe it is. When it comes to adjusting my expectations and application procedures, I have a window of tolerance in my heart for the work of this indie polish maker. I respect and admire Candeo Colors' creative vision and I value the experience of working with their products toward that vision. Plus, their logo is neater than socks on a rooster....

In direct sunlight, the glass fleck shimmer lights up Anochi Kai with sparks of pink, purple and violet that I couldn't capture in a photo but I'm happy with how these pics turned out. All those layers dried down pretty nicely, no?
When I get hold of a proper base polish for Anochi Kai (I saw it layered over Orly Beautiful Disaster on Plump and Polished and it looked fantastic) I'll swatch it again. For now, I'm thinking I just might use this mani as a base for another of Candeo's polishes, Sour Grapes. If it works, you'll be seeing it tomorrow....
