Rainbow Honey Gingered!

Gingered was released by indie polish maker Rainbow Honey as part of a five-polish Limited Edition December set for Holiday 2014. It is also available for purchase alone and is currently on sale at the Rainbow Honey shop. This is another of founder and chief designer Dee's luscious shimmer blends, a coppery orange melange of particulate shimmers sharing a suspension base with flake shimmers in gold and bright pink. The overall effect is of a softly scintillating bright coppery orange with a blush of melon to it and a gentle metallic glow. I had forgotten until I began applying this polish that it is gingerbread scented. At first the scent mixed with the volatile elements of the polish is quite sharp and peppery, but as it dries it softens and sweetens into a delicious gingerbread fragrance, so true that it made my mouth water. I've experienced scented polishes before, but nothing like this! While I wouldn't consider it overpowering, it is certainly effusive, with sillage enough that I would not recommend this polish for those with sensitivities to fragrance. Personally, I am really enjoying it!

Application was great. The consistency is fluid, soft and fluffy with components. It has a smooth, even flow over the nail with some tumbling of the flake shimmers, which eventually settle flat to the nail with no stick-ups. Any protrusions over the free edges are easily taken care of with a tip-wrapping swipe of Rainbow Honey's round, flexible brush. I used medium coats and had some pooling along the free edge, so I advise thinner coats. Completely opaque even coverage is achievable in two coats. Cleanup is surprisingly easy for a flake-laden polish. Gingered dries in good time to a smooth, soft finish. Topcoat seems to enhance the sparkle of the shimmers.

Photos show two coats of Gingered over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

I was very attracted to this polish upon seeing my friend Marisa's swatches on her blog, Tiny Twinklings, and I'm happy to say that as lovely and shimmery and full of sunset colors as it is in photos, it's even better in person. I especially adore the pink flake shimmers -- they add a flattering wash of coolness to this fiery concoction that makes it eminently wearable on my pinkage. Hooray!

love,
Liz

  1. Oh my, you captured the pink and gold flakies so beautifully (THAT SHADE PIC)!!! This looks incredible on you. I just fell in love with Gingered all over again <3 Aren't their scented polishes remarkable? I have quite a range of RH scented topcoats, and I basically use nothing else now. (But then, you will have experienced the particularly powerful Muscovite so you know this!) Soft and fluffy- isn't it, though? It sounds kinda strange but that is definitely how it feels when painted.

I know that it is a rare gold polish which strikes a chord with you, and I almost wonder if Gingered's metallic sister, Honey Gold, with its pink flakies and rosy cast, might be one such gold. I mean, Gingered is just so strikingly suited to you! But then, what do I know... I'm a neutral, and all I know about finding the right gold for a cool skin tone is that it is challenging :/ It's counter-intuitive... one would think a cool gold would be best, but in fact the olive undertones contrast with the pink tones (as with neutrals as well, but especially with cool skin); confusion! But then, rose-based golds tend to look best and most "golden" on skin anyways; this was confirmed for me when I bought MAC Melon pigment for Rocky Horror. But I digress. Speaking of honey, I am now randomly curious what your "swaggering honey pot" thinks of this Gingered, and if he feels it is quite ginger-y enough?? (I had such a good laugh this past fall when he did not feel that one candy apple red shade was quite candied or apple-y enough :) )

    1. My swaggering honey pot actually said that this would be a great flake effect paint on a Triumph TR7 or a '65 Mustang. He even urged me to get a diecast model of one of those cars and paint it, so I'd see what he meant. As if! *snort*

I'm so happy you like the pics, since I'm sure I'd never have found this beauty if it wasn't for your enthusiasm for Rainbow Honey and your post of Gingered. I'm actually considering some of her glitters now -- what is happening to me?! I don't think I'd do well with any gold, even a rosy one. My coloring just doesn't show them to their best advantage. Before I finally figured out that silver was best on me, I used to try and wear gold jewelry. It never really worked. I actually have the limited edition Literary Lacquers golden fulll-coverage glitter "I Heard the Bells" that I got with a large purchase of her polishes before Christmas set aside for you. I thought about trying it but could tell just by holding it in my hand that it would look awful on me. I also found a polish called "My Viking Boyfriend" by Glitzology (I think) that I just had to get for you, remembering the pics of your man's Rocky Horror coiffure. It's a blue glitter topper that needs a base to go over but I figured you probably had one or two blue polishes (ha!) in your stash that would work....

    2. MY VIKING BOYFRIEND??!! It sounds PERFECT!! There is broad consensus that Kellen is, in fact, a modern-day Viking :) You are just the dearest of them all; I think you must be a natural Valentine-giver yourself!! <3 I was going to sneak-Valentine you with some *Liz* polishes that I myself have been saving up, but it would seem that I am beaten at my own game, haha!!

Oh Honey Pot, what a thought. I'm guessing this is not the first time that he would like to appropriate some of your precious polishes for model painting? This past year Kellen was roped into the Warhammer game by his brother, with little painted figurines kind of as war chess pieces, and he used my Sally Hansen "Lava" (his favorite) on some of his fire-wolves I believe :)
