Rescue Beauty Lounge Motorini

Motorini was released by indie polish maker Rescue Beauty Lounge as part of the Italian Summer collection in August 2014. In the bottle, Motorini appears as a Bondi blue shade of cyan with prominent ultrafine particulate shimmers. Ji writes that the shimmers are fuchsia, but they read as an electric violet in the bottle. Once on the nail, the base color and shimmers work together to produce a medium-toned gorgeous, creamy shade of turquoise, almost a Carolina blue, with gentle green undertones and a delicate hovering mist of iridescent pinkish violet shimmers that offer up an ephemeral pink glow where the light hits and a soft focus effect overall.

Is it just me or do RBL polishes generally possess almost preternaturally wonderful application qualities? Because Motorini, like Abi and Bicicletta, went on fabulously. The consistency is fluid, creamy and smooth with a buttery, even, self-leveling glide over the nail. Pigmentation is very good with wearable opacity in two coats although I used three for this manicure to make sure that my ridges didn't interfere with the beautiful color and finish of this polish. Cleanup was easy and straightforward. Motorini dries in good time to a silky smooth, exceptionally glossy finish. Topcoat seems to intensify the shimmer effects.

Photos show three coats of Motorini over treatment and basecoat with a topcoat of Seche Vite.

Motorini strikes me as an old world color and reminds me of Cuba for some reason. The green underpinnings keep it grounded and the blue is very bold and rich. It could very well be a stand-in for what they've discovered Williamsburg blue actually was back in the day, before it aged into the paint color now known by that name. The glossiness of the finish is just amazing, you can tell it's not just due to topcoat, with the glowing suspended shimmers adding a modern touch to the historical feel of the color.

Despite the delicate shimmer, Motorini has a lot of energy on the nail. This is not a fragile, robin's egg blue kind of cyan. It's a statement polish, full of vigor, without inhibitions and well-prepared to be your signature color for any adventure.

love,
Liz
